I hope you guys enjoyed this little photo diary, have you been up to anything fun recently?
As September is gradually coming to a close, I am loving all things fall. And to me, that means being snuggled up in cosy jumpers, and being inside beside a fire, with comforting food. And what’s more comforting than home-made cookies?! I’ve got a recipe that is super easy to follow, and within 20 minutes you’ll be enjoying your cookies! So today I’m sharing it with you guys!
100g brown sugar
125g unsalted block butter
1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1/2 tsp salt
225g Self Raising Flour
200g chocolate (any kind!)
1/2 tsp salt
- Pre-heat oven to 200°c then place the butter and sugar in large bowl and mix well.
- Then add the egg and vanilla essence and mix well again.
- After that, sieve in the flour and salt, be sure to mix and combine well.
- Next cut the chocolate, roughly as finely as you’d like your chocolate chunks to be, for these I cut the chocolate quite fine. Once you’ve decided how fine you’d like your chunks, add them to the mix.
- Once everything is nicely mixed together, roll balls of mixture to about 2cm by 2cm and place on a baking tray with baking parchment on. Be careful not to put the cookies too close together because they will grow a little when cooking.
- Place in preheated oven for 7-10 minutes. Repeat until all cookies are cooked.
That’s right it’s only another bloomin’ Q&A isn’t it?!
Do you think your blog is successful?
There’s no un-awkward way to answer this one. So long as I’m enjoying creating content, I feel my blog is successful. The day I no longer enjoy it or want to talk about it, then it’s definitely not a success.
What’s your favourite product in your make-up bag right now?
My Collection felt eyeliner, no question.
What’s your favourite Cards Against Humanity card?
Five Dollar Footlongs™
Name 3 things you love unconditionally
My cats, my humility, and myself.
What are you listening to right now?
I’m actually listening to this right now.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Justin Bieber. I never expected this to happen. It just did.
Do you enjoy gardening?
It makes me so excited, I practically wet my plants.
What does your last text say?
“Love you too, will talk later” – Oooh how scandalous.
What is your favourite kind of blog post to write and read?
For me, the easiest types of posts to write are ones that are centered around something that I feel really strongly about, because they don’t need to be planned and drafted that far in advance, I can just sit at my computer and write to my hearts content, ensuring that I get everything I want to say out. Such posts as The Truth Behind Being A Journalism Student, Don’t Censor The F-Word and Six Smalls Steps To Happiness.
What’s your most popular blog post?
Do you think musicals are cheesy?
What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world and do you have any idea how you’d go about it?
What was your dream job when you were 16?
Owning a record label.
And that’s it for today’s Q&A, I know that a lot of these answers were quite short, but I didn’t get a lot of prying questions, or any requiring an in-depth answer. Let me know if you’d like more posts like these!
It’s that time again: Back to school! I know it can be daunting, and not a particularly exciting time, but I find that if you make a day of it, to go out and treat yourself to some nice brand new school supplies, books and stationery. Having cute things to pack in your bag definitely amps up your mood and gets you more excited for back to school, than dreading it.
So today I’m sharing with you guys some things that I picked up recently, with a back to school theme!
Notebooks | I chose a smaller A5 notebook, and a larger A4 notebook, because I like to have plenty of writing paper, but also sometimes I’ll only want to make light notes for a project, but in other classes it’s better to have a larger notebook, where you can go into more depth. I also chose a plain lavender notebook, but I have decorated it myself with these cute stickers!Document Holder | I thought this little folder was not only really cute, but insanely useful. Normally I’ll have a few pieces of paper with important information on them, somewhere. That’s the worst thing, knowing that you’ve got a specific piece of paper that you really need, but you’re not entirely sure just where it is. So I know that this little folder will really help me out, because I can keep all of these stray pieces of paper in one safe place.
Academic Planner | If you’ve gotten to the point in school where you are no longer given a weekly planner, I’d highly recommend getting your hands onto one of these. They follow the academic year as opposed to a regular year, meaning they start in August instead of January, and end in July instead of December!Weekly Planner | I feel that maybe this particular item is a lot more useful for older students who are living on their own for the first time. This handy little magnetic pad can be put on your fridge, and you can write down your plans for the week. Be it classes, events either work-related or social, you can have a visual layout of what the week ahead of you looks like. It’s also available in a meal-planner version, meaning you can plan your meals for the week, combined with a shopping list section so you can shop for the items you’ll need for you planned meals for the week. (Very good for breaking your reliability on microwave and takeaway meals!)Pens, Pencils, Highlighters & Rubbers | These items are probably the most obvious to have. I just thought that these rubbers were insanely cute, so I couldn’t resist them!
And that’s it! I hope this gave you guys some inspiration towards what to get before going back to school. So let’s get excited for seeing friends and a fresh start!
What is/was your favourite subject at school?
We’ve all been there. It’s the middle of the night, but your mind shows absolutely no signs of slowing down and settling to sleep. Trying to tackle it by watching tv, or reading can often be useless because those things only wake your mind up more by getting your imagination running. So when I found this book, I had to try it out for its original purpose. (I say original purpose because adult colouring books like these are designed with a plethora of uses in mind. Many of which prove very helpful for many different things.) Doing an activity like those that are featured in this book really do help you to shut off your mind and relax, as you are focussing on a single thing, and your mind doesn’t usually wander. This means that your body alerts your brain as to how tired you are, making sleep a much more achievable outcome. Furthermore, the actual illustrations of this book are all designed with serenity and peacefulness in mind. These illustrations are created to affect you subconsciously and induce feelings of relaxation; all lovely things for drifting off to sleep! However, this very outcome is also incredibly helpful for when it comes to anxiety. If you suffer with anxiety, doing something mindless like this can prove very effective in calming your mind if you feel an attack coming on, or if you feel as though you are in a situation where you might feel anxious.I myself have found that this book is perfectly fit for its purpose, and it assists in many other ways, but it’s also just a nice way to pass any free time you might have.
Let me know if you’ve got a similar book, or if you’re contemplating purchasing one now in the comments!
Recently my aunt took me to an absolutely gorgeous cafe in Plympton. I have never felt more at home in a cafe, everything was vintage-inspired, shabby chic and unique. We only sat down quickly for a cuppa, but I took the opportunity to grab a few snaps while we were there. Jasmin’s serves cooked food, cakes and hot and cold drinks. The staff are incredibly lovely and friendly, everyone there is relaxed and enjoying their experience. The atmosphere is lovely, and there’s wifi, so I could see myself spending a long time in there! I will definitely be visiting again soon!
Do you have a favourite cafe for a lazy rainy day? Let me know in the comments!
Well well well. I can no longer simply be grateful, I’ve got to make an entire post on this topic. Over the last week I’ve been nominated for 4 blogging awards. That’s insane. Thing like this simply reminds me just how much I was looking forward to upon entering the blogging community.
Everyone is so supportive and loves to cheer each other on; something that I love in people. So today I am finally thanking everyone that nominated me, answering the questions and giving my nominations too!
The Fashionista Award
I was nominated by the lovely Kimberley at Kimmykeepreal for this award, so a major shoutout to her, I love her blog and the real life topics that she writes about. So without further adieu I’ll get into these questions!
What motivated you to start blogging?
As I’ve already slightly touched upon in the beginning of this post, and some previous posts, I was motivated to get started because of the real sisterhood that blogging radiates. In fact, I loved everything about it, the writing and general creating, getting to know people and having an online documentation of my progress. The only thing that ever held me back was deciding a name!
Deja Vu, I will never tire of that movie. I also really enjoy Coraline and The Great Gatsby.
What is your dream career?
I would love to be a television presenter. But hey if we’re talking far out dreams I’d like to be Beyonce.
Top wish list items at the moment?
A Lay-Z Spa Miami and a sofa.
Favourite TV shows?
Family Guy, QI, and any Derren Brown shows.
What stores do you find yourself shopping at the most?
New Look and Primark primarily for clothes. I’ve also been gravitating more towards TK Maxx, House Of Fraser, Boots and Superdrug, but that’s for my home-ware and beauty fixes.
Favourite fashion designers?
House of Deréon, Chanel, VS
What is your dream vacation?
Either educational like Japan, or entirely relaxation like Greece.
What are your goals for your blog?
Simply to be honest, be myself and continue to create content that I am proud of. While also discovering new people and making even more friends.
The Premio Dardos Award
I was nominated for the next 3 awards by the gorgeous Felicia from Beginnerbeaute so another major shoutout to her and her blog! She’s so kind hearted and lovely, you’ll wonder what you were reading before discovering her blog!
This award is very simple, but absolutely wonderful to be nominated for. In simple terms, the award means:
The Premio Dardos Award exists to acknowledge the values that every blogger shows in their effort to transmit cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values every day. These stamps were created with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers, a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.
So again, thank you so much Felicia, it really means a lot to be associated with this award.
Versatile Blogger Award
Ok for this award I have to share 10 interesting facts about myself, and like always, I cannot think of 10 on the spot. So here goes nothing!
1. I find it very difficult to determine if a fact about me is indeed suitable to be deemed ‘interesting’
2. I adore orange rex bunnies.
3. I am very sure that my friends are the best in the world, and am willing to fight to prove that fact.
4. My favourite subjects at A-Level were Psychology and RS
5. I can play every instrument known to man.
6. Sometimes I lie when telling facts about myself.
7. I love Hall & Oates and Genesis
8. Death Note is the only anime I have ever watched
9. I love Halloween
10. At one point in my life I wore roughly 50 bracelets on one arm. Daily.
The Beauty Blogger Award
You step into Sephora/drugstore, what section do you rush for?
Urban Decay. I cannot get enough of every product. Though I do also like to spend some time around the Chanel section.
What is your favourite summer makeup product?
My favourite year-round product is eyeliner. But waterproof in the summer.
What is a makeup product/trend you are looking forward to for the fall?
If you had your own beauty line that consisted of one beauty product, which product would it be?
Either eyeliner or lipsticks.
What is your favourite summer-fall transition nail polish colour?
I’m a white or light pink nails all-year-round girl.
What is your favourite summer pedicure colour?
Lighter colours for summer, darker for winter.
Summer eye shadows, shimmer or matte?
I’d prefer shimmer over matte for summer, but shimmer is also perfect around the holiday season!
Bold lip, or ‘my lips but better’ for everyday wear?
My lips but better for everyday. Bold for evenings.
What is your opinion on the strobing trend, and do you ‘participate’ in this trend?
I have only just heard about this trend. I’m all for it if people are enjoying doing it, I myself would give it a go but I’m more of an eye-makeup person as opposed to a full face.
And finally that’s it! Thank you again to Kimberley and Felicia for nominating me, you’re both amazing and so sweet to do so!
My nominations are:
I really love all of you guys and all of your lovely blogs really deserve it. Feel free to give these posts a go, but if not just know I love seeing you guys on my reader!
Hi! My name’s Corinne, and welcome to my lifestyle blog, Organic By Nerve!
I never really introduced myself, or this blog, or even the style of posts I’d be writing, I just kind of created this blog in January 2015 with a favourites. But the point of today’s post is just that. I made this blog on a whim at the beginning of the year and I have loved running it ever since.
I don’t really have any limits on this blog, it is a lifestyle blog, so I post just about everything, from style inspiration posts, to product reviews and just my general thoughts. I’m not your average white background-product-only, entirely impersonal blog. I want you guys to really know who I am, my thoughts and personality.
To anyone that’s thinking about maybe starting their own blog, or in fact, doing something that they think will make them happy, or sounds a bit exciting; do it. Stop holding yourself back based on what might happen, if no one listens, if you’re worried about failing, just do it.
Particularly when it comes to starting your own online space, I always think a good mentality to have is, just write a post. Just write your first post, it’ll give you a kick start. You can always go back and delete it later if you don’t think it’s right for your blog. People might think they can see your first post in the future once you’ve really carved out what you want you blog to be, but the truth is so few blogs actually have their first original post online or public any more.
So what I’m essentially saying today is bite the bullet. If you want to give something a try, do it, and do it today. I did in January, and I’m so glad I did.
Welcome to Organic By Nerve.
Shoutout to Tyler (@AvokeStudios) for helping me with this post.
Here’s something a little bit different! Today I thought I’d share with you guys one of my recipes, chocolate cupcakes!
155g of self raising flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
¾ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp white vinegar
– Makes 12 cupcakes
1. Preheat the oven to 180º and line 12 hole muffin tray with cases.
2. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
3. In a separate bowl whisk together the buttermilk, vanilla, and vinegar.
4. Beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
5. Add in the flour mixture in 3 additions making sure the ingredients are well combined.
6. Add in the buttermilk mixture in 2 additions and mix together.
7. Pour the mixture evenly into the cases.
8. Bake for 20-22 minutes.
250g icing sugar, sifted
a couple of drops of vanilla extract
Beat the ingredients together either by hand or with a mixer until all the mixture comes together and forms a light and fluffy frosting texture. Spread evenly over the cupcakes and decorate how you wish. I chose to break up one cupcake and sprinkle that on top of the others.
And that’s it! Let me know if you try these out, I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
Getting into blogging really piqued my interest in creating and editing images, and making them exactly what I wanted them to be. So today, as it is quite a requested topic, I thought I’d share with you guys some of my favourite apps and techniques to editing pictures!
VSCO Cam | I love the filter F1 from VSCO Cam because it amps up the fade of an image, making it almost immediately look more professional in my eyes. It also lightens the image, which I also think makes the image more appealing, and in keeping with my Instagram theme.
Long Exposure | This app is amazing. I have loved it since downloading it, roughly a year ago. If you love those long exposure images of lights, or just general moving images, but you don’t have access to an expensive camera with the capable settings, this is the perfect app for creating identical images.
Aviary | This app is a perfect all-rounder for when it comes to editing. From a pinpoint focus effect, frames, to illuminating an image, or making it high def. If you’re just getting started out with photography on your phone, or just want to add an extra dimension to your images, this app is a perfect all in one for anything you might want to do.
Aillis | This app is designed for fun. From cute frames and filters to add to your pictures, one of the biggest selling points of this app to me, was the adorable stickers. If you’ve got quite a cute or simple image, these stickers really add something to it. Not to mention you can make your own!
PS Express | This app obviously has a lot of factors to it. It’s like a slightly more advanced Aviary. It is capable of any type of editing you’d like to do, and with loads of extras. The app itself is free, but does have further in-app purchases in order to use every function. I like to use this app for brightening and again, increasing the fade of an image.
That’s it for the apps that I like to use when it comes to editing my pictures, I hope you guys found that little insight useful! Let me know in the comments what your favourite apps are for editing!
