Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass Event

Recently myself and a friend were invited to attend Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass tea party, and makeup master class, so I thought I’d bring you guys along, and let you know how it went!

When we arrived, we saw that the usual Urban Decay counter was decorated aptly, in a tea party, Alice in Wonderland theme. There was fake moss, cake stands (with cakes of course, Urban Decay knows the ways to our hearts!) along with their limited edition makeup items displayed in cute tea cups and tree stumps. IMG_2334There was also a makeup tutorial that featured most of the products. The makeup artist talked us through a half ‘natural’ daytime look, and half ‘edgy’ night-time look.

The daytime look featured the ‘Alice‘ shades from the limited edition palette, with their new ‘Beached‘ bronzer, and the lipstick in the shade ‘Alice‘ from the limited edition lipsticks in tribute to the film.

The night-time look featured a mix of some of the ‘Iracebeth‘ and ‘Time‘ shades, to create a really deep and smoky eye, along with the lipstick in the shade ‘Time‘ on the lips.IMG_2324I personally really loved the formula of the lipsticks, like most Urban Decay lipsticks, they are creamy and feel lovely on the lips, and I was actually really tempted by the colour ‘Mirana‘, but I stopped myself from buying it because I realised that the reason I loved it so much was that it reminded me of MAC’s Ariana Grande Viva Glam lipstick, (it’s matte too!), which I already own.

The other lipsticks really are quite unique and pretty, ‘Alice‘ is a beautifully shimmery pale nude, ‘Mad Hatter‘ is a heavenly pigmented shimmery purple, ‘Time‘ is an unusual and metallic-looking blue, and ‘Iracebeth‘ is a pinky-red matte fused shade.

Unfortunately all of the lipsticks are now sold out, and I don’t know if they are going to be restocked or if that’s it because they are limited edition, but you can keep an eye on them on Urban Decay’s site.IMG_2328I knew as soon as I was invited to this event that I wanted the eyeshadow palette. There was no doubt in my mind that even before I had seen it in the flesh, that I wanted it. When we first got to see it though, I was sold, purely by the shades ‘Gone Mad’, ‘Paradox’ and ‘Dream On’. I’ve really been loving orange eyeshadow shades lately, as they really compliment my eyes and skin tone, and the rest of the palette is just so unique, and insanely pigmented.

I won’t go too into detail on the palette because I do have a separate post going up after this one, so be sure to look out for that one!

That’s it for Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass Event, I really enjoyed the event, and was so happy to be invited. I loved the makeup tips that we were taught, and I can’t wait to attend more makeup and blogger events.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you’ve got any of the lipsticks, or if like me, you couldn’t wait to get the palette!

What Next?

Fotor0104175542Hey guys! As we’re all getting back into the swing of things with the new year now, I thought I’d take a bit of time to reflect.

I know, one of those posts.

But no, this isn’t going to be about me making some kind of major life change, or setting any ‘goals’ or ‘resolutions’, there’s enough of that floating around at the moment for me to jump onto that bandwagon.

Instead, today’s post is about this, where you are right now, my online creative space. As I explain on my About Page, this blog is a tiny corner of the Internet, where I choose to share and create content that I enjoy and love.

I’ve had this blog for almost a year now (it’s birthday is the 30th of January if you’d like to wish it a happy birthday!) I have been posting here with my schedule of three times every week for 6 months, and then every day for 25 days for the month of December. I can’t believe it’s been that long, but I’m really glad that this blog has developed into what it is today.

But I don’t want it to stop or plateau here, I want this space to continue to grow, and evolve with me. But right now I want to ensure that this blog is truly reflecting what I want, and that I’m creating exactly what I want and envision.

That’s right, we’re talking schedules and content. I know so many people that create content online tend to use the new year as a time to reflect on their schedules, and what they are actually creating, and I’m no different.

I know that I want to create a light and friendly online space, with content that really draws people in, making them want to comment and continually come back.

So you’ve guessed it, in order to really make sure I’m putting out what I want, I’m taking a short break.

It really isn’t going to be long, in fact I plan on being in full swing with (or without) a new schedule and improved content in plenty of time before my blog’s birthday. Essentially I plan on using this time to properly evaluate my content and schedule, because I want to be posting at the best times for me, and for you.

I do want to thank you all again, I know I always thank you, but it’s the the least I can do for you guys for being here and engaging with what I’m creating.

20 Things I’ve Learned In 20 Years

Hey guys! I don’t know if you knew this, (jk we all know I put a countdown in my sidebar, we all knew it was happening) but on the 24th of October, it was my 20th birthday! So naturally, with all of my accumulated wisdom over these vast 20 years, I thought today I’d share with you guys 20 of my top things that I’ve learned in the past 20 years.20 Things I've Learned In 20 Years

  1. Say yes to opportunities as often as you can, you won’t believe how much it’ll change your life and general outlook.
  2. Wear clothes that make you feel amazing, regardless of what anyone thinks or what you think they’ll think. Your confidence will shine through.
  3. You need bad times. Withouth these, there would be no contrast to the upliftingly insane great times.
  4. Remember number 3 when it’s one of those days. Think how much better things now have the opportunity to get.
  5. Life really does speed up. My brother explained to me that this is because the ratio changes as we get older. For example, when you’re 20, that year is 1/20th of your life, but when you’re 10, it’s only 1/10th. This might make little sense, but seriously, life speeds up.
  6. Walk. Whenever you can.
  7. Ask questions. You’d rather feel nervous for a second, and then worry-free because you have your questions answered, than stressed because you don’t know what’s happening or expected of you.
  8. Forgive, forget, move on. It’s so much better for you mind, health and stress lines!
  9. Celebrate. Celebrate occasions, events, achievements, people. Just freaking celebrate everything.
  10. Say yes to yas. This really links into number 9, but I’ve found that you feel so much better in yourself if you say yas to other people. If someone is wearing something outrageously fabulous, say YAAAAAS GURL. If someone overcomes adversity, say YAAAAAS. Out loud, or in your head, it’ll give you a great mentality.
  11. Having a bath with a bubble bar, a body scrub, face mask, then skincare routine and a mani/pedi is at least a fortnightly thing.
  12. “We’re all fighting hard battles, so you’ve gotta be kind.” Remember that everyone has their own life, and you might only know what’s on the very surface. Be kind, and understanding.
  13. The world isn’t against you.  People are nice. Nothing is ever the end of the world.
  14. Don’t ever tell yourself no, or “I can’t”.
  15. Talk to your siblings. No one has a closer personal experience of your life than they do.
  16. Accept that there are things that you cannot control. Once you accept this, life will become so much simpler.
  17. Nothing is permanent. Not one thing. There is no one thing that is sacred, everything is subject to change and disappear. Appreciate the now.
  18. Love. Keep your heart open. Adopt, live, give, and just love.
  19. Heartache really is healed by the sea. Time and the sea, helps towards healing everything.
  20. Don’t allow people to change your own perspective. If you think you’re good at something, but someone else doesn’t, it doesn’t help you in any way to adopt what they think. As David Foster Wallace puts it, “You’ll worry less about what people think about you when you realize how seldom they do” Quite simply, we’re all so concerned with ourselves, and what other people think of us, that we are all too busy to actually think about other people.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you did in the comments below, also feel free to drop any lessons you’ve learned there too, it’s always lovely to share experiences.

How To Optimise Your Blog Photos

I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we all start out in the blogging world, because we’re passionate about it. We love to create, and we love it even more when other people love what we have created.

But it can be a little disheartening if you are avidly creating and developing ideas, if your content is never seen. Therefore we all quickly start to learn little tips and tricks for correctly tagging and sharing our posts, in order to get them in front of the right people. So today, I thought I’d share with you guys, my tips for how to optimise your blog images, so that you are using every available tool for showcasing your blog/online space in the best possible way.How To Optimise Your Blog Photos

Starting out with optimising your images can be as simple as correctly naming your file. For example, the image above is related to this post, “How To Optimise Your Blog Photos”, therefore that’s what I named this file after I transferred it onto my computer, and before uploading it to this post. I know this sounds really useless and obvious, but think of just how many images you take directly from your camera and upload to your blog, without thinking about it. It’s as simple as this, I want people to find this post when looking for tips on how to improve optimisation on their blog photos, therefore that’s what I named the image, so when it’s searched for, this post will appear.

No one ever searches for “IMG_567” or “FPEBDWR”. Your file names must be relevant and useful.

Secondly, there is also ‘Alternative Text’. Alternative text is separate from the file name, and it essentially identifies what the picture is. It’s the text that shows up on screen when a picture doesn’t load properly. This essentially tells whoever is searching for a specific keyword, what is in the image. So if you take a picture of a Lush Bubble Bar, you’ll want to add Lush and Bubble Bar to the alternative text tags.

And lastly, keep file sizes small. People don’t like to be waiting 3 minutes for an image to load. Most will wait roughly 15 seconds before getting tired of waiting and moving on, and that’s not what you want. You want people to love your content and want to return regularly, not click on a link once and never return because your image loaded bar by bar.

That’s it! I hope this post helped some of my fellow blogging buddies out, be sure to let me know if it did! Also, if you’re a seasoned professional in the world of blogging, please do leave any tips you’ve acquired on this (or any similar topic) in the comments, as I’m sure we’d all love to share as much advice as possible.

How To Be Social Media Savvy

Fotor0914140618Nowadays, almost everyone you meet will have an online presence. Normally we overlook it, because it is so assumed and ordinary. But we can very often forget that while our social media accounts are for ourselves, and perhaps friends and family, but when you look into it, you’d be surprised by just how many people you don’t know can see what you post as well.

Especially when you run a blog, such as I do, you can find yourself torn between wanting to share every aspect of your life, and be completely unfiltered, but you still have to remain professional at the same time. So today I’ve complied some of my top tips for having fun on social media, and it still being primarily for you, but being savvy at the same time.

Avoid Negativity | Now obviously if you’re a blogger and you’re talking about a product, it’s always best to be honest, never lie to your readers and say you love something that you don’t. What I mean by avoid negativity is on a much more personal level. It is not professional or ever sensible to fight with someone online. It’s always better to vent to your friends or family, not online. You’ll feel better after talking to someone, and not just having a one sided conversation. Plus, you’re almost guaranteed to look back at your timeline and regret it.

Think It Through | Quite simply, when you are posting something, if you’re either wondering whether or not you should, or it’s something you’d rather not be seen by your grandmother, just don’t post it. It’s always better to stay entirely confident in what you’re posting, rather than having second thoughts either just before, or just after posting.DSCN2228Who Are You Representing? | If you are employed by a company, you’ve got to remember that you are representing them with what you post. Obviously your posts don’t have to have anything to do with your line of work, but be remember that your boss could at any time, see what you have posted. Your profile is still for you, and you have control over what you post, but refrain from posting about your ultimate lads night out the night before, and then the hangover when you’ve called in sick. Or about how much fun you’re having at on your road trip, again when you’ve called in sick.

Put In Your Hours | If you’re profile is public, and you’re posting throughout the day, if it’s a work day, it will become apparent to both your co-workers and your boss that you’re not necessarily giving your work 100% of your attention. Obviously this can go the other way with blogging, don’t oversaturate your followers. We all want people to see we’ve put a new post up, and we don’t want anyone to miss it. So it’s completely understandable to want to share it a few times throughout the day. But try to refrain from posting about it every 10 minutes, your followers will not want you to take over their timelines!

It’s Up To You | Remember that at the end of the day, your profile is yours. So if you don’t really want to be filtered or potentially embarrassed by anything you post, just make your accounts private. That way you know exactly who is looking at what you post.

Those are my tips on how to be a little bit more social media savvy, I hope you enjoyed them! Let me know if you’ve got any tips and tricks yourself in the comments!

Is It Awards Season?

Well well well. I can no longer simply be grateful, I’ve got to make an entire post on this topic. Over the last week I’ve been nominated for 4 blogging awards. That’s insane. Thing like this simply reminds me just how much I was looking forward to upon entering the blogging community.fotor080711573

Everyone is so supportive and loves to cheer each other on; something that I love in people. So today I am finally thanking everyone that nominated me, answering the questions and giving my nominations too!

The Fashionista Award

I was nominated by the lovely Kimberley at Kimmykeepreal for this award, so a major shoutout to her, I love her blog and the real life topics that she writes about. So without further adieu I’ll get into these questions!

What motivated you to start blogging?

As I’ve already slightly touched upon in the beginning of this post, and some previous posts, I was motivated to get started because of the real sisterhood that blogging radiates. In fact, I loved everything about it, the writing and general creating, getting to know people and having an online documentation of my progress. The only thing that ever held me back was deciding a name!

Favourite Movies?

Deja Vu, I will never tire of that movie. I also really enjoy Coraline and The Great Gatsby.

What is your dream career?

I would love to be a television presenter. But hey if we’re talking far out dreams I’d like to be Beyonce.

Top wish list items at the moment?

A Lay-Z Spa Miami and a sofa.

Favourite TV shows?

Family Guy, QI, and any Derren Brown shows.

What stores do you find yourself shopping at the most?

New Look and Primark primarily for clothes. I’ve also been gravitating more towards TK Maxx, House Of Fraser, Boots and Superdrug, but that’s for my home-ware and beauty fixes.

Favourite fashion designers?

House of Deréon, Chanel, VS

What is your dream vacation?

Either educational like Japan, or entirely relaxation like Greece.

What are your goals for your blog?

Simply to be honest, be myself and continue to create content that I am proud of. While also discovering new people and making even more friends.

The Premio Dardos Award

I was nominated for the next 3 awards by the gorgeous Felicia from Beginnerbeaute so another major shoutout to her and her blog! She’s so kind hearted and lovely, you’ll wonder what you were reading before discovering her blog!

This award is very simple, but absolutely wonderful to be nominated for. In simple terms, the award means:

The Premio Dardos Award exists to acknowledge the values that every blogger shows in their effort to transmit cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values every day. These stamps were created with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers, a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.

So again, thank you so much Felicia, it really means a lot to be associated with this award.

Versatile Blogger Award

Ok for this award I have to share 10 interesting facts about myself, and like always, I cannot think of 10 on the spot. So here goes nothing!

1. I find it very difficult to determine if a fact about me is indeed suitable to be deemed ‘interesting’

2. I adore orange rex bunnies.

3. I am very sure that my friends are the best in the world, and am willing to fight to prove that fact.

4. My favourite subjects at A-Level were Psychology and RS

5. I can play every instrument known to man.

6. Sometimes I lie when telling facts about myself.

7. I love Hall & Oates and Genesis

8. Death Note is the only anime I have ever watched

9. I love Halloween

10. At one point in my life I wore roughly 50 bracelets on one arm. Daily.

The Beauty Blogger Award

You step into Sephora/drugstore, what section do you rush for?

Urban Decay. I cannot get enough of every product. Though I do also like to spend some time around the Chanel section.

What is your favourite summer makeup product?

My favourite year-round product is eyeliner. But waterproof in the summer.

What is a makeup product/trend you are looking forward to for the fall?

Dark Lips.

If you had your own beauty line that consisted of one beauty product, which product would it be?

Either eyeliner or lipsticks.

What is your favourite summer-fall transition nail polish colour?

I’m a white or light pink nails all-year-round girl.

What is your favourite summer pedicure colour?

Lighter colours for summer, darker for winter.

Summer eye shadows, shimmer or matte?

I’d prefer shimmer over matte for summer, but shimmer is also perfect around the holiday season!

Bold lip, or ‘my lips but better’ for everyday wear?

My lips but better for everyday. Bold for evenings.

What is your opinion on the strobing trend, and do you ‘participate’ in this trend?

I have only just heard about this trend. I’m all for it if people are enjoying doing it, I myself would give it a go but I’m more of an eye-makeup person as opposed to a full face.

And finally that’s it! Thank you again to Kimberley and Felicia for nominating me, you’re both amazing and so sweet to do so!

My nominations are:

Fit and Bliss

Confetti and Curves

Welcome To Organic By Nerve

Hi! My name’s Corinne, and welcome to my lifestyle blog, Organic By Nerve!

I never really introduced myself, or this blog, or even the style of posts I’d be writing, I just kind of created this blog in January 2015 with a favourites. But the point of today’s post is just that. I made this blog on a whim at the beginning of the year and I have loved running it ever since.

I don’t really have any limits on this blog, it is a lifestyle blog, so I post just about everything, from style inspiration posts, to product reviews and just my general thoughts. I’m not your average white background-product-only, entirely impersonal blog. I want you guys to really know who I am, my thoughts and personality.

To anyone that’s thinking about maybe starting their own blog, or in fact, doing something that they think will make them happy, or sounds a bit exciting; do it. Stop holding yourself back based on what might happen, if no one listens, if you’re worried about failing, just do it.

Particularly when it comes to starting your own online space, I always think a good mentality to have is, just write a post. Just write your first post, it’ll give you a kick start. You can always go back and delete it later if you don’t think it’s right for your blog. People might think they can see your first post in the future once you’ve really carved out what you want you blog to be, but the truth is so few blogs actually have their first original post online or public any more.

So what I’m essentially saying today is bite the bullet. If you want to give something a try, do it, and do it today. I did in January, and I’m so glad I did.

Welcome to Organic By Nerve.

Shoutout to Tyler (@AvokeStudios) for helping me with this post.

Expectations VS Reality: Having A Brother

I think some of the funniest videos and blog posts are ‘Expectations VS Reality’ ones, they can cover just about any topic, and they are totally relatable, so today I thought I’d show you guys the expectations and reality behind having a younger brother.

Watching movies | Expectation:

1 exp

You hope that the two of you can sit down for an awesome evening of watching a movie together. You’ll both settle on a movie that you’ll enjoy, and the hours will fly by. But oh no, your younger brother has already (by whatever means necessary) watched every movie that has ever been released, online in the middle of the night before.

“But Ty, that movie came out yesterday.” “Seen it.”

Reality:1 real

Music tastes | Expectation2 exp

Everyone assumes that as a teenage girl, I’ll be constantly bothering my brother with the loudest pop music. (More specifically, boy bands). But oh no, the harsh reality is that your younger brother will make you follow his Spotify playlist, and you will get a notification every time he adds another One Direction song to it.

Reality:2 real

Taking pictures together | Expectation3 exp

Actually, this one can really apply to just about any situation that involves the two of us. You picture an adorable, perfect picture to share with your family, or you’d like to plan an afternoon out with your brother and grab some lunch. But he’s always. asleep.

So those are some of the expectations and reality that I could think of behind having a younger brother! Do you have a younger or older brother? Let me know in the comments if you get people asking you what it’s like to have one! In conclusion, brothers: can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

Organic By Nerve: Behind The Scenes

Here at Organic By Nerve, we take our business very seriously. We campaign and market daily to PR companies, and are constantly in touch with both small, and well-established brands in regards to collaborating.

Nah, I’m just kidding, can you imagine? Hi, I’m Corinne. I’m currently studying Journalism at University and this, is my personal lifestyle blog.

I am not at all a professional, nor do I really know what I’m doing. But I do know that I am incredibly passionate about writing and creating content. This blog allows me to fulfil all of my passions, in one place; and I love it. So today I thought I’d share with you guys the behind the scenes exclusive, of how I put my posts together.

DSCN1450 (2) Naturally, we start in the beginning, with:

Stage 1: Deciding what to post. I usually have a notebook beside me with little scribbles of ideas that I’ve had. I will just flip through that until something really fits and feels right to write about.

Stage 2: I’m sat at my computer with the intention of writing. This particular stage is never really a set out routine, as it depends on the style of post as to whether or not I will be taking images at the same time, or if I already have them pre-taken.

Stage 3: Once the writing is out of the way, I will either take, or revisit the accompanying images. I will then do any editing that the images require, such as adding text.

Stage 4: Now the post is complete, and scheduled for posting at a later date.

Stage 5: On the day that the post is scheduled, once it is up, I will copy the url to the post itself, and share it on Facebook and Twitter. I don’t have a long and strained routine for sharing my posts, I simply share them, and I only share them once. I also know that every time a post is published, anyone that has subscribed with their e-mail address receives the post in their inbox.

And that’s it! As I have already said, doing this is really fun and fulfilling for me, and I love meeting new people through this platform. I’d also love to hear any recommendations any fellow bloggers would have as to how they share their posts, and how many times they feel is effective. So let me know in the comments if you’ve developed a routine that works for yours!
