The Mascara Edit

I think mascara is one of the first things people tend to experiment with when it comes to makeup, but we often fall into the habit of always just repurchasing the same mascara that we always use, never knowing the effects of endless other mascaras! So today I thought it’d be interesting for me to talk you guys through the mascaras that I have tried, and let you know how well they work, if they last all day, and if they do everything that they claim to.

IMG_2243Rimmel’s Wonderfull Waterproof

I was initially drawn to this mascara because I’d had a real problem with my mascara transferring onto my eyelids and underneath my eyes throughout the day, so I thought a waterproof one was just what I needed to combat this happening. This was also one of the first plastic applicators that I’d ever had, and I was keen to see how that affected the application. The brush itself is big enough to catch all of your lashes in one go, so it’s a lot easier to build it up into a couple of coats, and I can confirm that this mascara will only budge when you properly remove it at the end of the day!

Makeup Revolution’s The Viper

I briefly spoke about this mascara in my Makeup Revolution Focus post that went up a couple of months ago, and like I said then, I was quite disappointed with this product. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Makeup Revolution, their highlighters, palettes, lipsticks and lip lacquers are absolutely perfect. But I think the combination of this mascara being a bristle brush applicator, with a ‘snake-like’ shape, makes it difficult to apply properly. I found that it can give reasonable volume, but no real length or lift.

Avon’s Super Shock

I was really impressed by just how long the applicator for this mascara was! The bristles are short, and really condensed, so you catch a lot more of your lashes when applying this mascara. I’ve found that this product is quite affordable and effective, but it definitely works much better if you’ve curled your lashes first, as the straight brush does make it tough for you to get a nice lift and curve to your lashes.

IMG_2245Benefit’s They’re Real

This mascara is as famous as it is, because it truly is amazing. Just one coat of this and it really gives you an effortless ‘false-lash’ effect. The varying length of the bristles means that it catches long and short lashes all in one swift swipe. The only con I can think of when it comes to this product is that it’s incredibly difficult to apply to the lower lash line, because it’s almost too good at lengthening the lashes, that it can leave them looking spidery and transfer onto underneath your eye.

Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash

The formula of this mascara is incredible, as it never flakes or crumbles throughout the day. The black colour is one of the most intense I’ve known when it comes to mascaras, and Benefit tackle the one issue I have with “They’re Real” with this mascara; it’s really difficult for applying to the lower lash line. I think it’s because the applicator isn’t plastic, so it holds onto the product, meaning you don’t over-apply the product. It’s also one of my favourites because the brush is twice the length of any other I’ve previously used.

IMG_2247Soap & Glory’s Thick & Fast

As I’ve gone through so many various types of mascaras, I never thought I’d find the perfect hybrid of all of these, until I saw Soap & Glory’s 7 sided super mascara! I’ve found that this mascara does wonders for curling your lashes up, but only really adds noticeable length and volume after a couple of coats.

Maybelline’s Lash Sensational

Everyone’s favourite drugstore mascara, and I can completely understand why! Whether you only apply one coat, or you prefer to build it up, this mascara is always noticeable and adds everything you’d like to add to your lashes, curl, length, and volume, all while remaining pretty and not spidery. It’s even the perfect formula and brush for applying to your bottom lashes. This is by far, my favourite mascara, because it does the job so well, and it’s affordable.

That’s it for all of the mascaras I’ve tried! Do you have a favourite that I haven’t mentioned? Let me know in the comments below!

Brand Focus: Benefit

I recently realised that I showed you guys my beauty advent calendars at the start of December, but I never gave you guys an update of the products that were included!

So today I thought I’d do another brand focus post, and talk you through the products that I received, and review everything!IMG_1771Total Moisture Facial Cream | This face cream is actually a lot better than I expected it to be. I thought that it’d have a really strong scent, and that as soon as I applied it, it would maybe sting my sensitive skin, and make it so red that I couldn’t use this product. But instead I was pleasantly surprised by a light scent of mango butter, a natural plant-based emollient known to provide moisture, so I didn’t hesitate to put it on my skin, because I knew it would be gentle on it. It left my skin feeling instantly refreshed and highly moisturised.IMG_1772Rockateur Cheek Powder | This cheek powder is a fabulous alternative to both blush and bronzer, because it has both bronzing and peach undertones. You only need a very light swipe of this across the apples of your cheeks, and your complexion is instantly lifted and given a really worthwhile warmth. Benefit describe this product as perfect for giving your skin “a fresh-off-the-stage glow.” Your skin can’t look better than that!

IMG_1774Highlighters

Watts Up! | This highlighter is in my favourite packaging, because I find it so much easier to apply in this twist-up chapstick-style format. The colour itself is a really gorgeous golden champagne, with a lot of shimmer and shine (obviously!). The only thing I found with this particular product (the travel size) is that it takes an awful lot of blending at the edges, to look right. This difficulty obviously doesn’t exist with the full size product because it comes with a proper ‘smudger’ on the other end of the product.

High Beam | This highlighter is my favourite shade of all of Benefits highlighters, because it has a really cool pink undertone, and I find that that shade suits my skin tone best. It is a liquid, so I would recommend using this sparingly, and then blending it out, and gradually applying more if you want a more obvious highlighted look.

Ooh La Lift | This is actually an ‘under-eye brightening’ highlighter, so it’s like a wonderful mix of a concealer and a highlight. As it says itself, its perfect for putting underneath your and in the inner corners of your eyes to really brighten them up and cover any other dark areas you may have, without being overly ‘highlighted’.IMG_1779The Porefessional Primer | I think this is one of Benefits most well known products, it was definitely the first product of theirs that I ever heard about, so I was really excited to give it a try! It’s tinted, but the colour really dissipates once you’ve properly applied it, and I’m really glad to be able to say it’s actually one of the best primers I’ve ever tried. I’ve found that it increases the staying power of both eyeshadows and foundation/concealer for all-day wear. It’s also quite unique because you can apply it under or over your makeup, and I think that’s perfect for those (like me!) that can sometimes forget to apply a base before putting on your makeup.

They’re Real! Remover | I was confused at first by the name of this product, because I was so used to associating this name to the famous mascara, but this is the perfectly formulated remover for that mascara! All you need to do is apply a small amount of this to a cotton pad, and swipe it across your eyes, and it removes all waterproof makeup.IMG_1781Lollitint Lip & Cheek Tint | I have been blown away by the pigment and staying power of this product. When I first tested it, it had the formulation of a lipgloss, so I suspected that when I swiped it away, that it would disappear entirely. But after it had dried and I tried to wipe it off of my hand, it had done just what I least expected, and it had stained my skin a highly pigmented deep pink. I really like this product because it starts out with a consistency similar to a lipgloss, you have some time to apply and play around with it (especially when applying to your cheeks) before it actually settles and stains the skin.

Sugarbomb Lipgloss | Benefit have done it. They have found the perfect formula for a lipgloss that means it’s still a lipgloss, but it’s not sticky, so that’s already an insane pro to this product. This particular lipgloss actually contains some plumping qualities, so at first it does leave a tingly sensation on your lips, but after that, it is a really subtle pink-toned nude lipgloss.

Hoola Lipgloss | This lipgloss is similar to Sugarbomb, but it’s not plumping, and it’s a slightly darker nude shade, which makes it so much more suitable for all skin tones. Again, it’s not sticky, so it’s really nice to wear.

IMG_1786Mascaras

Bad Gal Lash | I really like this mascara for when I’m applying it to both my top and botton lashes, because of the brush applicator, it’s easily buildable and it does take a few coats to get a really exaggerated lash look. So it’s perfect for building up the length and volume of your top lashes, while keeping it pretty and natural on the bottom.

They’re Real! | Possibly one of the most famous mascaras on the market, and I completely understand why. With just one coat, you’ve got an immediate false-lash effect. I don’t like applying this mascara to my lower lashes because the plastic applicator means it can tend to make them look spidery and transfer onto the underneath of my eyes, but other than that, this mascara is perfect for a quick false-lash look.

And that’s it for what was included in Benefit’s advent calendar, I hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Have you tried any products from Benefit before? What’s your fave?

BLOGMAS Day 1 // Beauty Advent Calendars

Hello everyone and welcome to the first day of Blogmas 2015! I thought there was no better way to kick of this years Blogmas, than by sharing with you guys what beauty advent calendars I have this year.

Makeup Revolution London Advent Calendar

This advent calendar is one of my favourites available this year, because it contains full sized products (including an eyeshadow palette!). It’s also a 25 day calendar, meaning you have a fun treat every single day up until boxing day!makeup academy advent calendar 2015 (1)makeup academy advent calendar 2015 (2)Benefit’s “Party Poppers” Advent Calendar

This is the advent calendar that really got me into advent calendars. It may only last for the 12 days of Christmas, but this calendar contains travel-sized versions of the famous Benefit products that we’ve all come to know and love. This was insanely difficult to get a hold of, as it sold out both online and in stores incredibly quickly.Benefit advent calendar 2015 (1)Benefit advent calendar 2015 (2)Flutter Advent Calendar

This year I’ve really fallen in love with the brand Flutter. As you can see, everything they make is covered in the cutest animals, and their products are easy to use and uncomplicated. I wanted to get this calendar as soon as I heard about it, because not only is it another 25 day calendar, but it was incredibly cheap, meaning it’s a perfect pre=Christmas gift for someone who is just starting out with makeup.Flutter advent calendar 2015

That’s it for the advent calendars that I have this year, unfortunately the Benefit one is entirely sold out now, but the Flutter and Makeup Academy ones are still available, at an incredibly reduced price at Superdrug right now, so now’s the perfect time to get them quickly, as they’re reduced. So get yours before we’re too far into the month!
