Fall Makeup Tips & Tricks

We’ve all heard it all over the blogging/makeup world. Autumn calls for deeper plum and red shades on the lips, and golden and warm tones on the eyes. So today I’m taking you guys through some of my tips on how to phase out summer trends, and update your makeup bag for Autumn looks. (Along with some added beauty routine tips too!)Fall Makeup Tips & TricksExfoliating & Moisturising | As the cold weather starts to set in, we cover ourselves up with cosy blankets and clothes, and we tend to forget about and neglect our skin. Just because we aren’t exposing it, doesn’t mean we don’t need to be taking care of it. It is paramount to remember to exfoliate and moisturise our skin, this ensures it’s super soft ready for Spring & Summer next year!Fall Makeup Tips & TricksGolden & Dark Tones | Of course, the festive season and Halloween in particular call for deeper, and golden tones on the eyes. Whether you want to go for an all out smokey eye, or you prefer a more toned down look with just a touch of golden glimmer, this time of year is one of my favourites for makeup, because you can be as daring as you desire.

Toning Down | What with turning up the intensity of your lips and eye makeup, you don’t want to go overboard, so you’ve got to tone down the rest of your makeup. This starts with going easy on the bronzer. If your eyes or lips are the statement of your face, you want the rest to be demure and natural. Also don’t forget that the changes in temperature cause your cheeks to naturally flush, so if you’ve already applied a lot of blush, once you’ve gone outside and come back in, your face is going to be too flushed, so take it easy on/eliminate the blush!Fall Makeup Tips & TricksDeep Reds & Plums | Of course, everyone’s go-to Autumn trend is a dark lip. If you’re used to wearing a dark lip, this can just be a seasonal change for you. However, as I know not many people have dabbled in dark lips before, I will give you this tip; if it’s your first time wearing a dark shade and you’re not confident enough to go all out with it just yet, simply apply a little bit of the lipstick to a brush, and lightly apply to your lips. This way you can build the depth and intensity of the colour up to what you’re confident and happy with.

That’s it! I hope these tips help you guys out with transitioning into the Autumn months, let me know if you’ve got any awesome Autumn tips/tricks in the comments below!

September Favourites

It’s the end of another month, so that can only mean another favourites post! I’ve got a lot of new things to talk about this month, along with some good old favourites, so let’s jump right into my September Favourites!qwertyuiopNivea Soft Moisturiser | I’ve dabbled with this moisturiser before, but I very quickly stuck to my Nivea Day & Night moisturisers. So this month I decided to dedicate myself to trying this moisturiser out properly, and I love it. It’s so light and delicate on the skin, but really leaves your face feeling hydrated and unbelievably soft. It’s also one of the rarer moisturisers that smells amazing too.

Azure Woven Facial Mask | As I’ve been having a little bit of skin trouble lately, I’ve been trying a lot of new products out to give my skin a break and a little treat. These facial masks are astounding. They’re super easy to use, but perfect for a girly night in. It’s a cloth-mask, meaning all you do is open it, and place it on your face!

Dead Sea Mineral Mud Mask | As I’ve already said, I’ve been enjoying girly nights in with face masks, and nothing leaves your skin feeling more nourished than a mud mask. These are really affordable and ready to use at any time!

Planet Spa Lavender Pillow Mist | You would not recall a life before trying a lavender pillow mist. I know I certainly don’t. The lavender helps you drift off to sleep naturally, without being too overpowering.

Colour Changing Light Up Heart | I picked this up in Tiger a little while ago, and I’ve loved it ever since. This cute little heart slowly fades through a rainbow of colours, again, perfect for having on while you’re relaxing, perhaps with a face mask and spritz of lavender on your pillows?DSCN2322Collection Lip Liner | I picked up this lip-liner because it’s the corresponding lip-liner to the lipstick that I fell in love with from Collection. As it’s a very deep burgundy colour, I feel that it stays put and looks even more gorgeous when I’ve lined my lips first. It’s also great for using all over your lips if you’d rather have a slight tint of this colour, before fully committing to the depth of the lipstick.

Collection Lipstick in #3 Aubergine Kiss | This lipstick, is gorgeous. I can’t even fully express it to you guys. It’s so perfect for autumn, day to evening wear, I just love it. It’s the deepest burgundy colour you can imagine, has a good staying power for a drugstore lipstick, and it doesn’t break the bank! An autumn must-have for me.

Baby Lips Chapstick | I’ve ranted to you guys about how much I adore Baby Lips chapsticks since I first picked one up earlier this year. I really like the Dr Rescue range because it’s slightly more intense, perfect for the colder weather, and if you regularly suffer with dry lips. But this one in particular is tinted pink, it’s almost like a lipstick!DSCN2324 Lush Creamy Candy Bubble Bar | I know I know. More about Lush’s Creamy Candy Corinne? I can’t help it, this product is perfect for any night, any time of year. As I’ve said before when I’ve talked about it, it smells just like candy, leaves your skin feeling silky and moisturised, and it gives you a bath full of bubbles to enjoy. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Zoella Beauty Candy Cream Body Lotion | I’ve been obsessed with this smell since it first came out. It’s deliciously fruity, with bursting beads and acai berries, this body lotion really gives your skin a treat. Making you feel fresh and delicious.DSCN2327 VO5 Heat Defence Spray | I know I’ve only just spoken about the VO5 hair care range, but my hair has never felt better ever since I tried these products out. The heat defence spray is an ultimate staple for me, and I know I always stress it, but it should be a staple for everyone. If you’re blow drying and styling your hair with heat, you need to be protecting it first. And even after re-bleaching the ends of my hair, it’s silky and soft thanks to these products.

VO5 Frizz Free Creme | This creme is perfect for use in tandem with the heat defence spray, as it moisturises the ends of your hair, leaving them feeling just a soft as after having a trim.DSCN2333Zombuster Game | And finally, this game. It’s as addictive as Flappy Bird, with a similar format; you’re just consumed with a mighty need to keep trying. Just bust the zombies, and avoid the civilians, it really is as (seemingly) easy as that. Let me know if you beat my high score of 100, because I will be jealous and it’ll give me all the more reason to keep playing. This app is free to download on ios and android, with an in-game ad banner.

That’s it for my September favourites, what have you guys been loving this month? I always like to hear about new products to try out!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

As September is gradually coming to a close, I am loving all things fall. And to me, that means being snuggled up in cosy jumpers, and being inside beside a fire, with comforting food. And what’s more comforting than home-made cookies?! I’ve got a recipe that is super easy to follow, and within 20 minutes you’ll be enjoying your cookies! So today I’m sharing it with you guys!

DSCN2013  Ingredients

100g brown sugar

125g unsalted block butter

1 egg

1 1/2 tsp vanilla essence

1/2 tsp salt

225g Self Raising Flour

200g chocolate (any kind!)

1/2 tsp salt

DSCN2018Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200°c then place the butter and sugar in large bowl and mix well.
  2. Then add the egg and vanilla essence and mix well again.
  3. After that, sieve in the flour and salt, be sure to mix and combine well.
  4. Next cut the chocolate, roughly as finely as you’d like your chocolate chunks to be, for these I cut the chocolate quite fine. Once you’ve decided how fine you’d like your chunks, add them to the mix.
  5. Once everything is nicely mixed together, roll balls of mixture to about 2cm by 2cm and place on a baking tray with baking parchment on. Be careful not to put the cookies too close together because they will grow a little when cooking.
  6. Place in preheated oven for 7-10 minutes. Repeat until all cookies are cooked.

Naked Review

Check this post out with that very click-bait-y title. What kind of treat do I have for you today?

Unfortunately I am going to be reviewing Urban Decay’s Naked 3 palette, and giving you some more affordable similar drug store palettes.

So here she is, in all of her glory. The Naked 3 palette. With 12 rose gold infused hues, this palette is by far my favourite one by Urban Decay. Naked 3 Review Obviously this palette is not for everybody. It clearly isn’t the most affordable palette available, but is it one of the most popular and lusted-after. Some of my pros on the palette is that it has incredible lasting power, whether or not you use an eyeshadow base or primer. And that it comes with a double ended brush, unlike most palettes which will just provide you with a sponge applicator, this palette provides everything you need to create an array of looks, with a regular brush and a fluffy brush on the other end for blending.

The tones are obviously very unique, and nicely pigmented in that you can just lightly dust them across the lid, of build them up to a very rich and intense colour. From Strange, to Blackheart, each shade is nicely faded from one to the next, meaning that they are perfect for blending together, and creating any kind of smoky eye you could possible want, from an intense black smoky eye, to a gorgeous light gold smoky eye effect.Naked 3 ReviewA great palette that I’ve found is good at creating similar effects is the Makeup Academy Heaven & Earth palette. Again, all of the colours are complimentary, and you have 12 shades to choose from when creating a blended effect. The shade Amazonian Bronze is very similar to Naked 3’s Buzz, with just a little less shimmer. Golden sand is a similar shade to Naked 3’s Trick, but again with less shimmer. Therefore I’d recommend this palette if you don’t want to spend big bucks on an eyeshadow palette, and you prefer to go for more toned down looks, and less shimmery ones.Naked 3 ReviewNaked 3 Review Another wonderfully affordable and gorgeous palette is Collection’s All About The Eyes Palette. Obviously this palette only contains six shades, but these are six of the basic shades that I fell in love with from the Naked palette, so I couldn’t resist it. You’ve essentially got Strange, a mix between Burnout and Limit, Trick, Factory, Darkside and Blackheart. This palette is equally as shimmer-based as the Naked 3, but obviously the staying power is a little less, because that’s one of the things you pay for in makeup. Naked 3 Review

That’s it for my Naked 3 palette review with 2 affordable drug-store alternatives! Let me know if this post pushed you to grab the Naked 3, or if you’re going to check out one of the more affordable palettes!

22 Beauty Hacks Everyone Should Know

Fotor0916134947This post is quite long, so without further introduction, here are 22 beauty hacks that I think everyone should know!

1. Apply Vaseline to your eyelashes before bed, this will make them easier to curl in the morning and enhances growth.

2. Use a DIY sugar scrub before you shave for the worlds softest legs which will be officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records – mix one part oil to two parts sugar, and add vanilla essence or lavender oil, whatever scent you most enjoy, and rub it onto your legs to remove dead skin.

3. Always apply a second coat of mascara, it’ll ensure your mascara doesn’t fade, and stays curled all day.

4. If your lipstick doesn’t have a great staying power, before applying it, apply some to a slanted brush and fill and line your lips with it, then apply your lipstick regularly, it’ll double the lasting time!

5. Apply a shimmer based white or silver eyeshadow to the middle of your lower lip for bigger, exaggerated lips.

6. When you apply foundation, apply it in downward strokes, as it flattens the tiny hairs on your face, meaning you’re left with a much more natural looking base.

7. After you’ve washed your brushes, turn them upside down and roll them in your hand, this will preserve the softness and fluffiness of the brush.DSCN22548. If you want to overline your lips, only overline the centre of your lips, and then bring the line back into follow your lips natural lines, this makes your lips look much more natural and just a little plumper.

9. Mattify any lipstick by adding a pressed or translucent powder over the top of it, it absorbs the moisture and leaves you with a matte lipstick.

10. If your hair is badly tangled, don’t brush from the roots, this will hurt your scalp and possibly tear the hair out, instead brush from the ends and work your way up to the roots, it’s much more delicate on hair and your scalp.

11. If you have a few split ends, but you don’t want to have any length cut off of your hair, simply twist all of your hair together and cut the strands that are sticking out; this removes the split ends and doesn’t take off any length!

12. If you can never get a clean cut line when you do winged eyeliner, take a little bit of masking tape and put it on the back of your hand and peel it off a few times (this is just to make it slightly tacky) then put it beside your eye mimicking the line where you’d like your eyeliner. Then you can confidently apply your eyeliner, remove the tape and you’re left with a clean line.

13. If you don’t have an eyeshadow primer, you can use a small amount of concealer on your lids to help the eyeshadow last all day.

14. Hair grips are supposed to be used with the flat side showing! Many people slide the flat side downwards, this makes it easier for the grip to slide out!

15. If you’ve created a hairstyle and you’d like it to last longer than it does, use your hair grips in a cross formation, this means they both hold the other grip in.

16. Talcum powder can be used as a dry shampoo substitute if you don’t have any.DSCN225617. If your nail varnish takes too long to dry, once you’ve finished, put your fingertips into a glass of cold water for about 2 minutes, after that, your nails will be dry!

18. If your mascara has dried up and you can’t buy more for a little while, by adding a few drops of makeup remover to your mascara will make it last for a few more uses until you can buy a new one!

19. Applying chapstick before lipstick keeps the lipstick from transferring to around your mouth, and also makes it have a longer lasting power.

20. Putting a white eyeliner in your waterline brightens up tired eyes and makes them look bigger.

21. If you’ve woken up with badly puffy eyes, putting two spoons in the fridge for a couple of minutes and then resting them on your eyes for a few more minutes will reduce the puffiness and soothe your eyes.

22. If you constantly suffer with puffy eyes, ensure that you’re sleeping with pillows that elevate you head above the rest of your body, this means your body is properly draining the fluids from your head, no more puffy eyes!

The Ultimate Guide To Eyeliner

Fotor091013053 You read that right my friend. Today I’m going to take you through my ultimate guide to eyeliner. From liquid, to gel, I’m breaking down my personal favourites, and what I’d recommend based on your confidence applying it.DSCN2221 Gel Eyeliner | This eyeliner is my least favourite. Simply because personally, I feel it takes to long to apply. I don’t usually have the patience to keep reapplying it to a slanted brush, and layering it to get a true absolute black. However, this eyeliner is great for beginners because you can’t really go wrong with it. From exactly where you’re applying it, to how much you are putting on, it’s all determined by you. Using a slanted brush usually means that applying it is super easy, as you really have to brush it on, it isn’t like liquid where it has the possibility of going everywhere.DSCN2223 Pencil Eyeliner | I personally rate this type of eyeliner just about gel eyeliner. This is because application is easy, again, great for people who aren’t overly confident when it comes to eyeliner. However, it doesn’t give the effect that I like to go for, which as I’ve mentioned, is an absolute black. Pencil eyeliner can tend to look a little grey, and because it’s a pencil, it drags along your lash line, meaning the line isn’t always straight, it can appear jagged. Another downfall to some pencil eyeliners is that they need to be sharpened in order for them to work properly. This is an added piece of work that I’d rather not have to do, unless absolutely necessary. Of course, this means I favour the Collection pencil eyeliner over the Makeup Academy one, because more modern pencil eyeliners actually come in a twist applicator, meaning you never have to sharpen it, like the older actual pencils.DSCN2222 Felt Eyeliner | Hands down, my favourite type of eyeliner. All problems that you may encounter with eyeliner, are non existent with felt liner. As the applicator is like a felt tip pen, it doesn’t move freely, meaning you apply the eyeliner exactly where you want it. You never have to sharpen it. All you have to remember is to store it out of direct sunlight. Which is a no-brainer when it comes to makeup anyway.

Just for a quick review within the felt eyeliner world, the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Felt Liner is a more affordable eyeliner, but unfortunately it does last a maximum of a month before drying out, no matter how careful you are to put the lid back on and store it sensibly. Application is super quick and easy, and this eyeliner is actually the one that opened my eyes to the fabulous world of felt eyeliners.

The Maybelline eyeliner is a lot more expensive. It does last a little bit longer than the Rimmel one, but unfortunately I haven’t gotten along with it because the applicator is exactly like a felt marker; it’s slanted. This made application very difficult for me as I’d try to use the pointed end, but the slant would sometimes transfer a smudge of eyeliner onto my lid. Therefore I would not repurchase this item. DSCN2224Liquid Eyeliner | This eyeliner is incredible. It has excellent staying power, and is the absolute black that I like to go for. However, I would only recommend this eyeliner to someone who is absolutely confident with applying eyeliner, as the applicator is just tiny bristles that move very freely. But this also means that you can determine the thickness of your line because you can build it up.

24 Hour Felt Tip Liner | My holy grail. The best of the best. Never will I invest in another. Everyone in the eyeliner game should be aware of this product. It’s a reasonably thin applicator, meaning again that you can build your line up, or keep it very fine and simple. It has lasted me 2 months so far, and shows no signs of drying up. It’s thin and amazing to use. IT has an incredible lasting power, and even lasted longer than a YSL liner when I went swimming! Can you tell I love this product? Well I do. And on top of all of those amazing reasons, it’s £3. That’s a really competitive price compared to all other eyeliners, and in my opinion it’s the best out there. Whether you’re an eyeliner pro, or you want to apply eyeliner for the first time ever; THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU.

And that’s it! I hope this guide helped you out, let me know if you’ve found an eyeliner that you’d never repurchase, or your own holy grail!

Autumnal Date Night Makeup

That’s right, it’s nearing autumn now, which can only mean that berry and golden tones are creeping their way back into our makeup looks!

So today I decided to put together an autumnal look that you could wear out in those delightful autumn evenings!DSCN2214

I started out by brushing and filling in my brows, then covering my lids with Trick from the Naked 3 palette. After that, I put Mugshot in the outer crease, then Factory on the very bottom of the outer corner. Once I had finished all of that, I put a dab of Strange in the inner corners, just to brighten up the eyes and cancel out any darkness that might have collected there.

Next I did my favourite makeup addition of all time, a cat eye. I used my Collection Extreme Felt Liner to do line along the top of my upper lash line, and then did a little wing. Then I curled my lashes and added Maybelline’s Lash Sensational mascara.

Now to make this look very fit for autumn, I used my favourite autumnal lipstick, Rimmel’s Kate Moss lipstick in 107.IMAG0837 (2)

And you’re done! I hope you guys enjoyed this look, let me know if you give it a go!

Beauty Staples & Essentials

Every person that likes to dabble in beauty, be it anything from wearing a little bit of makeup, to having a complete step by step skincare routine, at one point realises that there are certain staples that you always like to have. So today, I thought I’d share with you guys, my beauty staples and essentials. Just some of the things and products that I always like to have stock of.DSCN2142 (2)Cotton Wool Pads | Obviously these go hand in hand with makeup removal. They are excellent for removing a full face of makeup, but also for cleaning up and mistakes you might have made whilst applying your makeup

Cosmetic Buds | Essentially useful for the same reasons as the cotton pads, but on a much more concentrated and precise scale. Absolute perfection for cleaning up messy eyeliner!

Clarifying Foam | This is something that can be switched out for my trusty Imperial Leather Hand & Face wash, for those like me, with very sensitive and delicate skin. But sometimes if I’m confident in my skin, I’ll like to use something like this after removing my makeup, so I know that my skin is absolutely cleansed and free of impurities.

DSCN2144Micellar Water | As I’ve said before, if you’re a makeup-wearer, you should also be a micellar water-user. You may think that makeup removal wipes are fast and handy, but you won’t know fast makeup removal until you’ve tried a micellar water. This particular one is my favourite because it’s a 3 in 1, meaning you don’t need an over the top skincare routine alongside it, it does everything for you. Micellar water is also a lot gentler on the skin and doesn’t cause you to drag makeup around your face as wipes can. DSCN2145 (2)Moisturiser | Nivea’s Day & Night moisturisers have been a saviour of mine ever since I first tried them out. The day moisturiser is light and non-greasy, while still providing your skin with moisture and SPF coverage. The night moisturiser is obviously stronger, as it can leave your skin feeling a little tingly if you use it too soon after cleansing. But as it’s that little bit stronger, overnight it’s really providing your skin with the moisture it needs.DSCN2149Body Lotion | Whether you use body scrubs or not, I think everyone can really tell the difference when they’ve treated their skin to a body lotion. Plus nowadays with such cute and beautifully scented body lotions, why doesn’t everyone use these?! Wouldn’t you want to smell delicious?

Deodorant | This one is terribly obvious, but I think if you find a deodorant that does you good, while still smelling nice and clean, and not just plain or unscented altogether, you should share it. So I really love this deodorant because it smells really clean and nice, and keeps you feeling fresh for up to 48 hours.

Leave-in Conditioner | Somedays you can have done everything that you’ve been told to do, and everything that your hair demands, but your hair, once it’s been dried and styled, still looks dry and unhappy. This is where a leave-in conditioner can save you from a bad hair day. If the ends of your hair are looking a little dry and frazzled, just smooth a little bit of this into the ends, and they are instantly smoothed and look moisturised. What’s even better is that because you’re recommend to use such a small amount of this product each time you do use it, it tends to last for a long time. So it’s a hair-saving product that you don’t have to re-buy every week.

That’s it for my beauty staples and essentials, do you have a particular essential that I haven’t mentioned? Let me know in the comments!

Makeup Bag Staples

For those of us that like to wear makeup, we can quickly see that there are certain products we like to keep at hand throughout the day. So today I’m sharing with you guys my favourite makeup bag staples.Fotor0819173550

First things first, obviously a compact is a really handy thing to have in your makeup bag, otherwise carrying any additional products is entirely useless. I like to have a double compact, meaning there is a regular mirror and a magnified side.

The next staple is a moisturiser. If you suffer from dry skin, then it really helps to improve it if you regularly moisturise throughout the day. It also helps your makeup sit better on your skin, and give it a much higher lasting power.

For me, I also like to always have a pair of tweezers on me, if not for any last minute brow checks for yourself, then it’s always handy to lend to a friend if they are in need.

Naturally after tweezers, the next product is whatever you use for filling in your brows. I use a brow pencil, as it’s handy and easily portable.DSCN1993 (2)

A further product that I can’t even imagine leaving the house without is a chapstick. I’ve been obsessed with Babylips since I first picked up one to try out. Lately I picked up this lightly tinted one to add a little bit of colour to the lips, while also moisturising them.

Next I also like to have a natural lip look ready in my makeup bag, so I like to carry a pink lipliner along with a corresponding lipstick. My favourites are Rimmel’s Exagerrate lipliner in ‘Eastend Snob’ and Lancôme’s L’absolu Rouge in #06 ‘Rose Nu’ which I have previously spoken about in my favourites.

Finally, for the eyes I also like to always have a neutral eye look handy in my makeup bag, so I’ll always have a neutral toned eyeshadow palette on me, lately I’ve been loving Makeup Academy’s Heaven & Earth eyeshadow palette, as it covers a lot of neutral and pretty looks.DSCN1992 (2)

I can’t leave out eyeliner, so I’ve always got a felt liner on me, and once again recently I stumbled upon Collection’s Extreme 24 hour eyeliner, and it hasn’t left my side since. I also like to have my mascara on me just in case I need to touch it up during the day.

Obviously there are certain other tools that are always good to have handy, for me it’s an eyelash curler, travel brush, a hair tie and some bobby pins.

That’s it for today! What products can you guys not leave the house without? Let me know in the comments!

Pop Of Pink

I think summer is the perfect time for bright and girly colours, so today I’m sharing with you guys some ideal products for summer, with a pink theme!DSCN0794

Rimmel London’s Exaggerate Lip-Liner | This lip-liner is one of the rare finds that you can apply all over you lips, but it doesn’t leave them looking overly ‘done’. It’s quite pigmented, meaning that you can leave it as all you’ve got on your lips.

Rimmel London’s Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Tint | Again, this blush is perfect for summer because you just add the smallest amount to your finger and blend it onto the apples of your cheeks. It’s also one of my favourite blush colours of all time.

Nivea’s Raspberry Lip Butter | This. Stuff. Smells. Amazing. You can smell it instantly, once you’ve opened it. It also works wonders for your lips! I would however, highly recommend using this product sparingly, because suprisingly enough, it is very pigmented. Apply too much of this and your lips will disappear, and a very light, bright pastel pink will leave your face looking washed out.

DSCN0802

Dior’s Lipgloss | I mentioned this lipgloss before in my Spring Inspired makeup routine, and it’s great for summer too! It’s not sticky, and has an amazing staying power, so you don’t need to keep constantly reapplying it throughout the day, again, perfect for carefree summer looks.

Gosh’s Giant Blush | This stick blush is perfect for summer, because you can just dab it on your cheeks, blend and you’re good to go! It’s also perfectly sized for your purse so it’s ready on the go.

Colourworks Lipgloss | This lipgloss is essentially the same as the Dior one, but at a much more affordable price, it also leaves a slightly more pastel-look to your lips, which is very well suited for any makeup looks where you’d prefer the attention drawn to your eyes, as it’s not distracting, but completes the look.

Those are some of my favourite pink-based products that I love for summer. Do you have a favourite colour for this season? Let me know in the comments!
