January Snippets

That’s right, you sensed it coming, we’re at the end of another month!

This year, I decided that instead of strictly beauty favourites with some added extras, I’m going to post a monthly round-up, with a video and some stills from particular events throughout the month.

One of my favourite days from the past month was a day I spent with one of my fabulous pals, so I’ve collated some pictures from that day here. (And how awesome is it that every picture I took seems to have a pink-hue too!)

This month I wanted to venture out a little bit more, so I decided to do some little things like learning the piano, and as I miss a studying religion and philosophy, I also searched for some books on the topic. I’ve travelled a lot, walked a lot, spent a lot of time by one of my favourite places, the sea, and I also won an awesome giveaway from Rebecca at Wavesofthoughts!

As you guys might be able to tell, I’m going to make posts like this a monthly series, but I still don’t have a proper name for it! So right now I’m just calling it ‘snippets’, if you can think of a name please let me know in the comments!

What was your favourite thing from the past month?

20 Things I’ve Learned In 20 Years

Hey guys! I don’t know if you knew this, (jk we all know I put a countdown in my sidebar, we all knew it was happening) but on the 24th of October, it was my 20th birthday! So naturally, with all of my accumulated wisdom over these vast 20 years, I thought today I’d share with you guys 20 of my top things that I’ve learned in the past 20 years.20 Things I've Learned In 20 Years

  1. Say yes to opportunities as often as you can, you won’t believe how much it’ll change your life and general outlook.
  2. Wear clothes that make you feel amazing, regardless of what anyone thinks or what you think they’ll think. Your confidence will shine through.
  3. You need bad times. Withouth these, there would be no contrast to the upliftingly insane great times.
  4. Remember number 3 when it’s one of those days. Think how much better things now have the opportunity to get.
  5. Life really does speed up. My brother explained to me that this is because the ratio changes as we get older. For example, when you’re 20, that year is 1/20th of your life, but when you’re 10, it’s only 1/10th. This might make little sense, but seriously, life speeds up.
  6. Walk. Whenever you can.
  7. Ask questions. You’d rather feel nervous for a second, and then worry-free because you have your questions answered, than stressed because you don’t know what’s happening or expected of you.
  8. Forgive, forget, move on. It’s so much better for you mind, health and stress lines!
  9. Celebrate. Celebrate occasions, events, achievements, people. Just freaking celebrate everything.
  10. Say yes to yas. This really links into number 9, but I’ve found that you feel so much better in yourself if you say yas to other people. If someone is wearing something outrageously fabulous, say YAAAAAS GURL. If someone overcomes adversity, say YAAAAAS. Out loud, or in your head, it’ll give you a great mentality.
  11. Having a bath with a bubble bar, a body scrub, face mask, then skincare routine and a mani/pedi is at least a fortnightly thing.
  12. “We’re all fighting hard battles, so you’ve gotta be kind.” Remember that everyone has their own life, and you might only know what’s on the very surface. Be kind, and understanding.
  13. The world isn’t against you.  People are nice. Nothing is ever the end of the world.
  14. Don’t ever tell yourself no, or “I can’t”.
  15. Talk to your siblings. No one has a closer personal experience of your life than they do.
  16. Accept that there are things that you cannot control. Once you accept this, life will become so much simpler.
  17. Nothing is permanent. Not one thing. There is no one thing that is sacred, everything is subject to change and disappear. Appreciate the now.
  18. Love. Keep your heart open. Adopt, live, give, and just love.
  19. Heartache really is healed by the sea. Time and the sea, helps towards healing everything.
  20. Don’t allow people to change your own perspective. If you think you’re good at something, but someone else doesn’t, it doesn’t help you in any way to adopt what they think. As David Foster Wallace puts it, “You’ll worry less about what people think about you when you realize how seldom they do” Quite simply, we’re all so concerned with ourselves, and what other people think of us, that we are all too busy to actually think about other people.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you did in the comments below, also feel free to drop any lessons you’ve learned there too, it’s always lovely to share experiences.

Sweater Weather Tag

Fotor01011221215I’ve been nominated by the lovely Rebecca from Waves Of Thought to do the Sweater Weather tag, so today I’m sharing my answers with you guys!

Favourite Candle Scent?

My favourite year-round scent is definitely Fresh Linen, it can’t be beaten! But particularly for fall, I love cosy scents, ironically like Bath & Body Works’ ‘Sweater Weather’!

Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate?

I love all three, but for this time of year, hot chocolate all the way!

What’s the best fall memory that you have?

Everything. Every memory. Every year oh my word. From Christmas, to Fireworks night, Halloween and Thanksgiving. But if I had to pick just one I’d say my Halloween when I was 8, because that’s when I got Tabs and Ginge.

Which make-up trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?

Winged eyeliner all of the way. Though I do adore dark lips, I wear winged eyeliner with almost every makeup look I do.

Best Fragrance for fall?

I like fruity and floral fragrances all year long, so anything like Katy Perry’s Meow or Ari by Ariana Grande.

Favourite Thanksgiving food?

Honey. Roasted. Vegetables.

What is autumn weather like where you live?

Autumn weather where I live is mostly perfect, and quite picturesque really. Crispy orange leaves on the floor, bright mornings and beautiful sunsets. But I can’t hide the fact that it does rain, both heavily and annoyingly drizzly.

Most worn sweater?

I don’t really wear a lot of sweaters, but I do like wearing oversized ones for lounging about the house.

Football games or jumping in leaf piles?

Jumping in a pile of leaves, for sure!

Favourite type of pie?

I know this question is intended to be a fruity/autumnal pie, but all I can think of is chicken pie, so we’re going with that.

What song really gets you into the fall spirit?

Since Katy Perry’s Prism came out this time last year, I guess I really associate that album with this time of year especially. But I’m a sucker for Christmas music, I’ll probably start blasting that on Nov 1st…

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

This year is actually the first year I’ve experienced pumpkin spice, and I can safely say, yes it is. It takes a little getting used to, but it is perfect for fall.

I nominate:

Karen from Confetti & Curves

Egypt from A Girl Named Egypt

Jessica from Miss Influential

And that’s it! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, I certainly did because I’m obsessed with his time of year!

Welcome To Organic By Nerve

Hi! My name’s Corinne, and welcome to my lifestyle blog, Organic By Nerve!

I never really introduced myself, or this blog, or even the style of posts I’d be writing, I just kind of created this blog in January 2015 with a favourites. But the point of today’s post is just that. I made this blog on a whim at the beginning of the year and I have loved running it ever since.

Fotor0731160830

I don’t really have any limits on this blog, it is a lifestyle blog, so I post just about everything, from style inspiration posts, to product reviews and just my general thoughts. I’m not your average white background-product-only, entirely impersonal blog. I want you guys to really know who I am, my thoughts and personality.

To anyone that’s thinking about maybe starting their own blog, or in fact, doing something that they think will make them happy, or sounds a bit exciting; do it. Stop holding yourself back based on what might happen, if no one listens, if you’re worried about failing, just do it.

Particularly when it comes to starting your own online space, I always think a good mentality to have is, just write a post. Just write your first post, it’ll give you a kick start. You can always go back and delete it later if you don’t think it’s right for your blog. People might think they can see your first post in the future once you’ve really carved out what you want you blog to be, but the truth is so few blogs actually have their first original post online or public any more.

So what I’m essentially saying today is bite the bullet. If you want to give something a try, do it, and do it today. I did in January, and I’m so glad I did.

Welcome to Organic By Nerve.

To Bucket List, Or Not To Bucket List?

Bucket lists. We’ve all heard of them, and plenty of us have one either written or saved somewhere. But here’s something you don’t usually hear, I don’t have one.

bucket list blog post

The main reason I don’t have an actual written-out list is simply because I’ve never really set aside the time to really decide what things I’d really like to have done before I die.

However I do personally feel that I’m more of a living in the moment type of person, meaning I don’t like to have my life entirely planned out. Now I do also understand that a bucket list isn’t a life plan, but I feel that when it does come around to it, I’d rather nostalgically look back on everything I have done, as opposed to being faced by lost opportunities and things I really wanted to do, but never got around to doing.

We don’t like to entertain the thought, but anything could happen to any one of us at any given time, so I think it’s best to do what you love right now, and if there is something you’d really like to do, do it now, book it now!bucket list blog post

Overall I think it’s a great thing to have aspirations and things you’d like to do the future, even if you can’t achieve them right now, but having a written out list can be intimidating and leave you feeling regret about the things that you didn’t make time to do.

One of the most important things,I think, to internalise, is to not deny yourself of the things that you want to do. Work hard, but don’t overwork yourself, no one has ever gotten to the end of their life and wished that they had worked more. They’ll wish they loved stronger, lived more, and forgave quicker.

We’re all in this together, so make friends, celebrate each other, wish the best for people, and they will do the same for you.

This post sure got philosophical real fast! I hope you guys enjoyed it, let me know if you’ve got a bucket list, and what thing you’ve crossed off so far that you’re the proudest of!

Expectations VS Reality: Having A Brother

I think some of the funniest videos and blog posts are ‘Expectations VS Reality’ ones, they can cover just about any topic, and they are totally relatable, so today I thought I’d show you guys the expectations and reality behind having a younger brother.

Watching movies | Expectation:

1 exp

You hope that the two of you can sit down for an awesome evening of watching a movie together. You’ll both settle on a movie that you’ll enjoy, and the hours will fly by. But oh no, your younger brother has already (by whatever means necessary) watched every movie that has ever been released, online in the middle of the night before.

“But Ty, that movie came out yesterday.” “Seen it.”

Reality:1 real

Music tastes | Expectation2 exp

Everyone assumes that as a teenage girl, I’ll be constantly bothering my brother with the loudest pop music. (More specifically, boy bands). But oh no, the harsh reality is that your younger brother will make you follow his Spotify playlist, and you will get a notification every time he adds another One Direction song to it.

Reality:2 real

Taking pictures together | Expectation3 exp

Actually, this one can really apply to just about any situation that involves the two of us. You picture an adorable, perfect picture to share with your family, or you’d like to plan an afternoon out with your brother and grab some lunch. But he’s always. asleep.

Reality:

Fotor071316132

So those are some of the expectations and reality that I could think of behind having a younger brother! Do you have a younger or older brother? Let me know in the comments if you get people asking you what it’s like to have one! In conclusion, brothers: can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

5 Free Printables & Facebook Page Announcement

Every now and then we can all do with a personal mantra, or just some words to settle and reassure us. So today I created 5 printables with some quotes that I love, all for different situations.

quote3 I adore this quote because it’s to the point, punchy and sassy. Any time I’m feeling a little bit down, or if someone in particular is getting you down, either because of the present or the past, I love being reminded that how we feel is up to us. Your self-perception and confidence is all determined and can only be changed by you. And as I like wearing makeup, (even if my drink of choice is Fanta…) this one feels great for me.

quote2 This quote entirely speaks for itself. Never do anything that you don’t absolutely love. You can always stop. Speak up and stay true to yourself and your preferences.Don’t waste a second of your life half-invested in something.

quote1 Again, this quote has no grey area. Personally I have never been very good at dealing with change. But as soon as I internalised this saying and stopped questioning the why of everything, life becomes so much easier. As humans, we are all constantly searching for the why in every event, but if we simply accept that everything happens for a reason, but some of these reasons may not be immediately evident, it doesn’t matter. Just embrace it and move on.

quote5 I love this quote because it reminds me that none of us are in this alone. Yes, there will always be people who appear worse off than you, and there will always be people who seem better off. But the reality is, you never truly know what another person is going through, because we cannot experience life from their eyes and with their thoughts. So therefore the best thing to do is to just be kind.

quote4And finally I love this quote because it doesn’t delve too deeply into life or emotions, it’s just a great little mantra to have whenever you’re shopping or getting dressed. All too often to place importance on what other people think and what other people are doing, and in the meantime we lose who we are and what we like. So this is just a more fun, confidence based quote to keep in mind if you’re having a down day, or questioning what to wear based on what others are wearing, or what they might say.

And that’s it! Those are just a select few of some of my favourite quotes that I like to keep in mind on a regular basis. Do you have a personal mantra? I’d love to hear it, so let me know in the comments!

I’ve also created a Facebook page that you can like, if you would like to do so! This way you can stay up to date with Organic By Nerve, and get in touch with me if you’d like to request a post, or collab!

Q&A: Blogging, Life, Etc

I always like connecting with you guys, and getting to know more about you, so today I thought it was about time I answered any questions you guys might have about me, my life, or this blog! So in order to collect your questions, I gathered questions from Twitter and Tumblr, and I’m answering them today! I’ve organised all of the questions into categories below.

Fotor0708162643

Blogging:

Which of your posts is your favourite?

I have different favourites for different reasons. Such as I prefer how some look over others, but I enjoyed writing other ones more. But I think an all-rounder for me is The Truth Behind Being A Journalism Student.

What are your personal favourite methods/platforms for gaining and keeping a loyal blog following?

I obviously signed up for Bloglovin’ shortly after creating my blog, but I don’t really have any particular methods for this. I share my content on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and occasionally Instagram. For me, discovering new blogs means I simply scroll through the WordPress tags from time to time and comment on and ‘like’ new blogs, so I’m consistently meeting new blogs and bloggers.

What do you find toughest about blogging?

Like all creative things, you go through bouts of seemingly unending inspiration and motivation, only to then be stopped in your tracks by a lack of inspiration. I do really enjoy every aspect of it, but that can leave me feeling a bit down on occasion. I also sometimes struggle with my personal life affecting how I feel, and therefore what I spend my time doing, but lately this blog has been a nice escape and has given me purpose.

What is your blogging set up?

Luckily, I have an entire post showing you my writing set up! My camera set up varies from post to post though, depending on the style of post, I may need a tripod, and even an extra pair of hands. Most of the time it is just me and the camera, repeatedly taking pictures from slightly differing angles.

Life:

If you could re-live a memory as many times as you wanted at the touch of a button, what memory would you choose?

I’m so lucky to have so many memories that I would absolutely love to relive, but if I had to choose just one, it would be tied between either my 18th birthday, or the day we went to go and get Sawyer and Milo.

What has been your favourite dyed hair colour?

Dark brown with purple ends. I adored that style, length and colour! It’s just a big commitment because it requires re-dyeing roughly every 3-4 weeks so it’s not very practical or economic.

Have you ever read a book/seen a film that changed how you see things in life?

Bee Movie. I mean seriously. But also About Time. It just made me realise that sometimes during the day you need to step back and appreciate even the smallest things that might normally annoy you, because without them, we wouldn’t be living. We’d just be rushing through life, existing.

Random:

Favourite flavour ice cream?

Mint Choc-Chip.

If you could be any celebrity for one day, who would you be?

Be.Yonce.

If you could invite 4 famous people to a dinner party, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Michael Jackson, Derren Brown, Katy Perry and the creator of the chicken nugget. MJ just to share my appreciation and love for him. DB because I could talk for hours about literally anything with him. KP because she’s a gem and an all around lovely gal, and the creator of the chicken nugget to thank them, duh.

What super power would you have and what would you do with it?

I would have the superpower to be able to actually read minds. It’d take a lot of the challenge and time out of it currently.

And that’s it for this Q&A! Thank you to those of you that sent me questions, I really enjoyed answering these and putting this post together, so if you guys have any other questions for me, you can send them to me at any time either via Twitter, or my Tumblr.

Beginners Guide To: Dogs

Research suggests dog owners are likely to be fitter and happier than those without a pup. As if this isn’t enough to convince you that you need a tiny, loving companion, they are also adorable, loyal and soon become a valued member of your family.

Fotor0526151833
So today, I’m giving you crash course in owning a dog.

The first, most important thing to take into account before getting a pup, is to find out which one is most suited to your circumstances. You’ll need to think about how much time you can dedicate to them, and if where you live is suitable for walks, and generally raising a happy, content pup. Time also is paramount as the amount of time you invest in your dog, is directly correlated to how many tricks your dog knows, and how well behaved your dog is.

The next thing is cost. The first year is one of the most expensive, but also paramount. There’s also, the bare minimum you can spend, but you can also be more extravagant, with toys, treats etc.

Be prepared for mess. A lot of mess. This mostly applies to puppies, as they like to test to see if everything is edible, and also sometimes they play interior decorator and just feel you don’t need your current carpet, skirting boards or curtains.

But once you’ve trained and spoiled your pup, the rewards really are endless. So now I’m going to stop listing requirements and considerations and just show you how amazing and fulfilling they are to have in your family. Big or small, loud or timid, our puppy posse shows you how real angels look.

DSCN0212 DSCN0228 DSCN0252DSCN0223DSCN0250 DSCN0247 DSCN0254 DSCN0286

They really are members of the family once you get one. I urge everyone to have a dog at some point in your lifetime, if you can realistically care for one. Unfortunately, not everyone can, but even more unfortunately, people make commitments to these guys, with no intention of keeping them. So today I’m sharing with you a link that by answering a daily question, right or wrong, Freekibble donates 10 pieces of kibble to Animal Shelters to help feed their hungry dogs. Add it to your bookmarks, and just by answering their daily question, you’re helping out dogs that really need it.

also s/o to the dude that assisted me today, an excellent photographer.
