So You’re Starting University…

It finally happened. After all of the insanely late nights spent working on your UCAS application, then checking your offers and emails, all while juggling the stress of revising for how many exams again?! You’ve got your place, and in September, you’re off to University. Well, as perfect as finally getting started may sound, you need to be aware of some of the things that no one tells you about starting uni. Nope, these tips I’m about to share aren’t in any handbook, on any brochure or mentioned on any open day.

So today I’m going to save your life, and give you my top 7 tips for your first semester at university.

Tip #1

Establish your own rules

If you’ve moved into halls it can seem incredibly exciting. You’re finally away from your parents and siblings, and have room and time to yourself. Wrong! You need to establish the rules between you and your dorm pals. You can’t let everyone in at 3am for the first month and then when you’ve got work up to your ears, lock everyone out with nothing but a sassy note left on the door.

Tip #2

Discount

So many places accept student discount nowadays that you need to shop around more. I know  I know, you love the mac & cheese that your mum always made you with ingredients exclusively from Waitrose, but girl, this is university and you can’t shop at Waitrose any more. And for the rest of you that can’t wait to live like a student and have nothing but takeaway all of the time, I’ll tell you a secret, the Co-op accept NUS cards. There you go, this is a majorly unknown fact, so you have absolutely no excuse for having stale pizza for breakfast for the third day in a row.

Tip #3

Wash Up After Yourself, Dammit

There are two types of people that live in halls. Those that feel like they’ve met their friends for life, and therefore don’t mind doing everyone’s washing up, every night, for an entire year, and those that leave their dishes to be washed by someone else, every night, for an entire year. To stop the former from having a breakdown and eventually turning on the latter, and attacking them with a spork on the final night of the first year, just do your own washing. If everyone does their own, everyone’s gets done and no one has to cry.

img_8432Tip #4

Being A Grown Up Isn’t So Bad

I know you may think that you can only understand the washing machine and cookbooks once you’ve finished your degree, but trust me, nothing is as difficult as it seems. Those big buttons on the front of the washing machine are literally self-explanatory. “Colours? Wtf does that mean?!”

Tip #5

Leave It, Lose It

You’ve got to be careful with your stuff, because whatever you leave in a public area, will become public property. Unless it is locked in your room, it is no longer solely yours. Yep, even if you have your name on it. Even your tub of your moisturiser is now for the random guy that stayed over in your friends room last night…

Tip #6

Sign Up, Level Health Up

It seems to be a right of passage that everyone gets freshers flu, the important thing is to know the difference between freshers flu, and still feeling unwell at the end of the first semester. Make sure you sign up with the local doctors surgery at university, otherwise if you do get ill in the future, you’ll be stuck with your friends staying away from you and people pointing at you from across the street. There will still be doctors in the town of your uni, they are still not allowed to talk about you to anyone, everything is the same, so sign the hell up!

Tip #7

It’s Nothing Like This

Finally, you’ve gotta realise that university is going to be nothing like you imagine it to be. It’s not going to be scary and intimidating, but it’s also not going to be insane party after insane party with everyone going wild, not if you don’t want it to be. It’s still a new environment, so people will be feeling their most vulnerable. Some people will compensate by being louder and more outrageous than they normally are, and some will hide in the corners and backs of the room. Gravitate towards those are acting how you are feeling; those are your friends for life.

Those are my top 7 (not to be taken seriously) tips for your first semester at University. I hope these tips help some of you guys out, and remember, don’t worry about starting uni, it’s going to be fine. You’re going to make some of the greatest memories and friends of your entire life, enjoy it all.

August Snippets

The snippets are back! After momentarily taking a break, (I didn’t film anything worthwhile last month, please forgive) I’m proud to say that my snippets videos are back and fully up to date!

As this months video is relaxed and chill, I thought I wouldn’t over explain it, and instead just let you enjoy it!

I hope you’ve all had a great month, and have an even better September!

What was your favourite memory from this past month? Let me know in the comments!

Summer Favourites

Hey guys! I know, I know, “disappear for a month and then just come back with a ‘Hey guys!’ and expect us all to not have any questions, really Corinne?” I am sorry for disappearing without warning, but I think I had a moment when I realised that as I was finally happy with the content that I was posting, I got scared to ruin the streak of posts that I actually liked. I finally was happy with every element of my posts, something which I hadn’t felt since I started, over a year and a half ago now. I realised that I didn’t want to ruin this streak of content that I was proud of, for the sake of sticking to a schedule that I implemented a year ago.

June Snippets

Hey guys! We’re now well into July, so it’s about time I shared my June Snippets with you all!

I had an incredibly fun month, as you guys know myself and my friend Gemma put together a weekly podcast series, under the name of a Work In Progress. We posted 4 podcasts, which you can listen to in a playlist HERE, covering topics from the magazine we created with our University, to our plans for Summer 2016.

Speaking of our magazine, this month it was printed, which meant lots of days out, delivering it to various places around Plymouth. I heavily underestimated my knowledge of my hometown, because I discovered so many new and fun places, in spots that I passed by all of the time!

Continuing the Gemma and Corinne adventures, we were kindly asked to assist Eat Music at the 2016 Freedom Fields Festival, which meant we were livestreaming all day, just generally chatting and interviewing the acts.

This month I also had to improvise, as myself and my friend Bella have a running tradition of seeing each other at least once every month so far this year, as she goes to University in Warwick, and I go to University in Plymouth. This month proved difficult for either of us to travel, so instead we decided to have a ‘Skype-Sleepover’, 15 hours later and it was the most fun Skype call I’ve ever had.

Disappointingly, there is only 2 seconds of footage, but this month I managed to go indoor climbing for the very first time! I’d been wanting to do this for ages, but I’d partly not had enough time, and also been a bit scared. So this month I just decided to go, and I loved it!

So you already know what I’m going to say, without further rambles, here is my June Snippets!

I hope you guys enjoyed this months snippets, as I said, I’ve had an incredible month, and I hope you have too!

Did you try something new this month that you’ve wanted to try for a long time? Let me know in the comments!

Work In Progress // Silverstone, Derren Brown & Our Final Goodbyes

Hey guys! Here we are, the end a Work In Progress’ weekly podcast series!

This week we thought that in keeping with it being the end of our podcast series, and officially the start of Summer, that we’d have a little chat about what each of us would like to get up to over the Summer holidays. Gemma chose 5 events that she’s attending over the next few months to discuss, and I chose 6, I got a bonus one as mine were reasonably hilarious, things that I’d like to do over our break.

I shan’t give away what we talked about, so that you can enjoy the podcast for yourselves, so here is the final week of a Work In Progress!

I know I say it all of the time, and I know it type it even more, but thank you for listening to, and reading my rambles, it means a lot to us. Another major thank you to GCABray for helping a girl out throughout this endeavour. I can’t believe one day I offhandedly mentioned that we should do a podcast throughout June, and you made it happen.

As we mentioned in the podcast, this is the final instalment of our series, but next week we are sharing a bonus ‘blooper reel’, that features all of our mistakes and abrasive laughing fits. So if you haven’t quite had enough of a Work In Progress, don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere yet.

Work In Progress // Blogging 101

Hey guys! Myself and my friend Gemma decided to tackle the subject of blogging in our podcast this week. Throughout this podcast, we collected and answered your questions from Facebook and Twitter, on blogging; every subject from how to keep your topics fresh, to how to stay thrifty with your money!

In case this is the first podcast you’ve discovered, here’s a quick run down of our podcasting plan. This is the third instalment of four podcasts that we are creating this month, and they go live every Friday. We’re having a lot of fun doing them, and we love that you guys are listening to them. So far we’ve talked about the magazine that we put together with our University, put together a playlist to showcase our different music tastes, and now we’re onto blogging!

So to avoid me rambling for another 5 minutes, here’s this weeks Work In Progress podcast, Blogging 101.

That’s it for this weeks podcast, thank you so much for listening to it! Next week we’ll be officially kicking off Summer with our final podcast! As it’s our last one, we definitely don’t want you to miss it, so be sure to tune in Friday 1 July, to get ready for Summer 2016.

Another super quick thank you to everyone that sent us questions, and again I’ll give a thanks to Gemma, she puts up with me while I laugh for a solid 3 minutes at the beginning of every podcast recording, before eventually saying “Hey guys!”

Work In Progress // Yelling, Remixes & Get A Shoutout Next Week!

We’re back again! We’ve been working on that progress, and Gemma and I are back this week with a brand new podcast! As you guys know, we’re both posting a brand new podcast every Friday this month, with a new topic each week for us to chat about.

The topic for this week was music, so Gemma and I decided to put together a collaborative playlist, featuring 5 songs chosen by her, and 5 chosen by me.

This makes for a really interesting playlist, and a great mix of music. So in this weeks podcast, Gemma and I introduce each of our chosen songs while explaining why we’ve included them in the playlist. So without further introduction, here is our latest podcast!

As we mentioned in the podcast, we’d love for you guys to check out the songs that we’ve included, so here is the playlist itself for you to check out and have a little listen to!

Thank you again for listening to us, we hope that you’re enjoying our podcasts! Don’t forget that the topic of next weeks one is blogging, so if you’re a blogger novice, pro, or want to become one, drop us your questions and tips either in the comments, or you can tweet me your questions HERE. We’ll see you next week!

What Makes A Good Makeup Brush?

Most of you reading this like to wear makeup, and it may come as no surprise to you to learn that I too, like wearing makeup. But you can feel disheartened if even after endless hours of scrolling through blogs, and watching countless hours of YouTube videos, that your makeup still isn’t looking the way that you want it to.

Of course this can be down to the products that you are using, if they are not the same, or at least very good dupes for the products that the tutorial requires, then the final outcome can look quite different. It can even be down to pure practice, no one comes out of the womb knowing how to perfectly blend eyeshadow, or with the stability to conquer a winged eye.

But if you’ve been practising for a long time, and you have invested in high quality products, but your makeup is still not looking the exact way you want it to, the problem can be as simple as changing your makeup brushes. So today I’m talking you through some tips to help you choose better makeup brushes, in order to achieve perfect makeup looks!IMG_7833You Get What You Pay For | Like most makeup products, makeup brushes are no exception to the fact that you get what you pay for. If you’re just starting out with makeup, then it is completely understandable that you might not want to invest in 3 makeup brushes for £20. But if you’re more invested in wearing makeup, then even with applying higher end makeup with cheaper brushes, you aren’t going to get as high a quality with your blending and application.

Density | A good makeup brush is dense. If you can, when buying brushes that you haven’t tried before, try feeling whether the bristles are tightly packed, or if there are only a few of them. If the brush is dense, the product will sit on top of it, and apply easily to your face, meaning you require less product. Whereas with loose brushes, when you swirl the brush in the product, a lot of the product will be lost in between the bristles, and fall into the brush, meaning you use more product to actually get it onto your face.

Fallout | If, as I mentioned in the point above, you are able to feel the brushes before you buy them, try lightly pulling at the bristles. If any of the bristles fall away from the brush itself in your hands, then it is not a brush worth your time.

Fame | If a particular company are well known for making makeup brushes, then you can be pretty sure that their brushes are going to be of a high quality. However if you’re trying out new makeup brushes from a company that are well known for making lipsticks, you might have to expect, not getting a high quality brush.

Those are my top tips for choosing new makeup brushes, I hope they helped you out! Be sure to let me know in the comments below if you’ve had any bad experiences with a particular brand, or if a brand has surprised you with incredibly affordable brushes!

A-Z Of Me

Hey guys! I haven’t done a personal post like this for a while, so today I thought I’d share with you, the A-Z of me!

Animals | I have 4 cats, who you have met HERE and HERE, 2 Chinchillas, Ophelia and Belle, 2 Bunbuns, Hemingway and Jack, and a Guinea Pig, Trevor!

Bags | I absolutely love collecting bags. Especially those that are almost too small to be sensible.

Creative with manipulating letter to be other letters, for example, fairy lights | I’ve mentioned it before, but as a blogger I am contractually obliged to have fairy lights in my room, and covering at least 3 feet of space in other places.

Derren Brown | Have I ever mentioned that I’m something of a fan? Because I’m a fan. I’ve seen his stage shows Infamous and Miracle, and I can’t recommend seeing him live enough.

Elephants | I really love elephants, especially on jewellery, I’ve just always been drawn to jewellery with elephants on it, I couldn’t tell you why.

Family Guy | Family Guy and I have been together for years, I can’t imagine live without it.

GCABray | Myself and my pal GCABray are putting together a weekly podcast series for this month, live every Friday!

Hands | I’ve been really interested in and loved practising nail art designs for years.

I | could eat nothing but edamame, spring onion and salt for days.

Japan | As you guys already know, Japan has been my dream holiday destination for a long time now.

Killjoy | Sometimes I can’t think of enough facts about myself when doing posts like these.

London Town | I can’t call London anything other than London Town now, I wish I knew why. Great place though.

MJ | Again, I’m sure you guys know that I’m a Michael Jackson fan.

Nuggets | I love anything in a nugget form. Chicken nuggets, Golden Nuggets, my cats who are all tiny nuggets.

Oh my god how many dresses do you own?! | I own 24 dresses. Even I didn’t know it was that many!

Qwerty | So many files on my computer are called QWERTY and QWERTYASDF because I can’t be bothered to label them correctly. I know, I despise myself.

Reciting | I can recite a 9 minute beat poem off by heart. But only in an Australian accent. (For those interested, it’s Tim Minchin’s Storm)

Same, girl | I know all of the words to Same Girl by R. Kelly and Usher

Tidy | I love tidying, I know, I’m one of those people. I like doing it, and I love seeing the results.

Untidy | When I’m stressed or sad though, the tidiness kinda disappears.

Zoolander | What is this? A school for ANTS?!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. It was actually a lot of fun to put together, so I nominate anyone that wants to do this post, to do it! I couldn’t believe how difficult it was for me to find information that I haven’t already shared, oh the stress of sharing on the interwebs.

I’d love to get to know you guys more too, so leave 2 facts about yourself in the comments below!
