Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass Event

Recently myself and a friend were invited to attend Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass tea party, and makeup master class, so I thought I’d bring you guys along, and let you know how it went!

When we arrived, we saw that the usual Urban Decay counter was decorated aptly, in a tea party, Alice in Wonderland theme. There was fake moss, cake stands (with cakes of course, Urban Decay knows the ways to our hearts!) along with their limited edition makeup items displayed in cute tea cups and tree stumps. IMG_2334There was also a makeup tutorial that featured most of the products. The makeup artist talked us through a half ‘natural’ daytime look, and half ‘edgy’ night-time look.

The daytime look featured the ‘Alice‘ shades from the limited edition palette, with their new ‘Beached‘ bronzer, and the lipstick in the shade ‘Alice‘ from the limited edition lipsticks in tribute to the film.

The night-time look featured a mix of some of the ‘Iracebeth‘ and ‘Time‘ shades, to create a really deep and smoky eye, along with the lipstick in the shade ‘Time‘ on the lips.IMG_2324I personally really loved the formula of the lipsticks, like most Urban Decay lipsticks, they are creamy and feel lovely on the lips, and I was actually really tempted by the colour ‘Mirana‘, but I stopped myself from buying it because I realised that the reason I loved it so much was that it reminded me of MAC’s Ariana Grande Viva Glam lipstick, (it’s matte too!), which I already own.

The other lipsticks really are quite unique and pretty, ‘Alice‘ is a beautifully shimmery pale nude, ‘Mad Hatter‘ is a heavenly pigmented shimmery purple, ‘Time‘ is an unusual and metallic-looking blue, and ‘Iracebeth‘ is a pinky-red matte fused shade.

Unfortunately all of the lipsticks are now sold out, and I don’t know if they are going to be restocked or if that’s it because they are limited edition, but you can keep an eye on them on Urban Decay’s site.IMG_2328I knew as soon as I was invited to this event that I wanted the eyeshadow palette. There was no doubt in my mind that even before I had seen it in the flesh, that I wanted it. When we first got to see it though, I was sold, purely by the shades ‘Gone Mad’, ‘Paradox’ and ‘Dream On’. I’ve really been loving orange eyeshadow shades lately, as they really compliment my eyes and skin tone, and the rest of the palette is just so unique, and insanely pigmented.

I won’t go too into detail on the palette because I do have a separate post going up after this one, so be sure to look out for that one!

That’s it for Urban Decay’s Alice Through The Looking Glass Event, I really enjoyed the event, and was so happy to be invited. I loved the makeup tips that we were taught, and I can’t wait to attend more makeup and blogger events.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Let me know if you’ve got any of the lipsticks, or if like me, you couldn’t wait to get the palette!

Ultimate Guide To Nail Care

Since I found a love for nail art, I also discovered how important it is to have a proper nail care routine, because with applying varnishes to your nails on a regular basis, it can make them weaker and prone to breaking, if you’re not giving them the proper care that they need.

A huge part of doing your nails is obviously removing the varnishes once they begin to chip, or just when you want to change the colour. This is where a lot of the damage can occur to your nails, because nail varnish removers contain alcohol, and this strips your nail of its natural oils, and therefore leaves your nails dry, brittle and highly prone to breaking.

So after a few years of trial and error, I’ve finally found a perfect formula for keeping your nails strong and healthy, even if you regularly paint them.Healthy Nails 2Cuticle Oil | Over time, I’ve learned of the importance of replacing any oils lost both on and near your nails through repeatedly subjecting them to varnishes and nail varnish remover. If you go to a nail salon, you’ll notice that after you’ve had your nails reshaped, and the polish removed, you have something called a cuticle oil painted across your unpainted nails, and massaged into your cuticles, and base of your nail. This step is essential for keeping your nails hydrated as they grow out, and it also helps keep your cuticles healthy and moisturised.

Nail Primer | This next step is another essential if you like your nail varnish to last. By using a proper nail primer, it can extend the length of your varnish by roughly a week! Most people like to use a base coat, which is helpful for keeping colours put, but they add a shine to your nails, which can mean that after a couple of days, the varnish can begin to peel away, as the combination of a base and top coat acts as a double-sided layer that essentially ‘traps’ the varnish, and results in it peeling away from your nail. The difference with a nail primer is that it goes on like a regular base coat, but it then dries matte, meaning that whatever colour you apply on top of it is absorbed by this layer, and it’s held by the nail, instead of being suspended on top of it.

2 in 1 Varnish | If you can’t find a nail primer, and you find that your base or top coat isn’t enough to keep your nail varnish put, it might simply be that they aren’t compatible. Instead I would also recommend using a 2 in 1 varnish because it works as both a base coat and a top coat, so it keeps your varnish from budging.

Nail Hardener | If you find that even with all of these recommendations, your nails are still quite prone to breaking, it could be down to your diet, so while trying to pinpoint how to improve your nails, a quick fix is to use a trustworthy nail strengthener, and paint that onto your nails before and after applying a colour.

Those are my top products for improving the condition and longevity after painting your nails. I hope you guys enjoyed it, and it’ll help you out!

Do you find painting your nails to be more of a chore, or a relaxing treat?

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I recently was in desperate need for some dry shampoo, so when I was out, I scoured the shelves, looking for the perfect product. I’ve used dry shampoos before, and I did like the various scents that Batiste offered, but I did find that with my dark hair, it took far too much ‘working’ into my hair, for it to not look powdery, and by the time I’d finished working the product into my hair, it look just as greasy as it did when I started out.

So when I saw this particular can offered a ‘hint of colour’ geared towards brunette hair, I thought I should give it a go.IMG_2095So the other day when I was styling my hair, I decided to finally give this product a go. I made sure to thoroughly shake the can, then lift sections of my hair and spray this directly at the roots, from roughly 30cm away, as instructed.

I was really pleased with the results, I didn’t even have to work the product into my hair, because as soon as I had sprayed it and let go of the section of hair, it looked fresh, and perfectly blended in.

I can honestly say that this is my new favourite dry shampoo, because it takes the least amount of effort to create a finished look, and it’s a reasonably sized can, so it’s definitely worth picking up, because it’ll last you, and it’s affordable.

I am so glad I finally found a suitable dry shampoo for darker hair, let me know if you have used this dry shampoo before, or if you’re going to try it out now!

I want to change up what I’m posting in the future, so be sure to let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more beauty, cooking, lifestyle or fashion posts, I’ll be sure to listen!

Quick & Easy Valentine’s Makeup Look

Dudes, before you overlook this post thinking to yourself, “Corinne, I really don’t need to watch another video with far too many steps to be practical, with far too many products for anyone to necessarily own”, this post is different.

Yes it’s a Valentine’s Day inspired post, but it actually is really quick, easy, and there’s no red lip in sight.backgrounderI know most Valentine’s Day makeup tutorials talk about different shades of red to perfectly suit every skin colour, but the truth is that some people just don’t want to wear a red lipstick, so this look is a simple but romantic ‘loved-up’ look. All I’ve used to create this look is 6 products (and one tool, but I’m not counting that) and it takes roughly 10 minutes to be fully done.IMG_1255

Start out by prepping your skin with moisturiser, then complete your usual foundation regime. I’ve then lightly contoured with the Estée Lauder “All Over Face Compact” and highlighted with Makeup Revolution’s “Blush” Palette.

Then fill in your eyebrows and apply ‘Mink’ from Soap & Glory’s “The Perfect 10” palette all over your eyelid, then apply a little bit of ‘Nudecomer’ to define the crease of your eye, and finally a little bit of ‘Moon Mist’ to the very inner corners of your eyes.

Once you’ve finished your eyeshadow, draw a thin cat eye with eyeliner, and apply some glue to some light and fluttery lashes. I am in love with this set from Fleur De Force by Eyelure because they are actually only 3/4 of the usual size of eyelashes, so they focus on the outside of your eyes, making your eyes look super big, and your lashes natural and fluttery!

Once the glue has almost dried and become tacky, curl your lashes, and then apply the falsies, and fill in any gaps with your eyeliner. The final step is to apply Bourjois’ “Rouge Edition Velvet” in the colour ‘Nude-ist’.

And you’re done! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and like this look, I really wanted to give you a different option to a bold red lip for Valentine’s. Let me know if you’re going to be wearing a similar look for Valentine’s Day!

What are you getting up to this Valentine’s Day?

22 Beauty Hacks Everyone Should Know

Fotor0916134947This post is quite long, so without further introduction, here are 22 beauty hacks that I think everyone should know!

1. Apply Vaseline to your eyelashes before bed, this will make them easier to curl in the morning and enhances growth.

2. Use a DIY sugar scrub before you shave for the worlds softest legs which will be officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records – mix one part oil to two parts sugar, and add vanilla essence or lavender oil, whatever scent you most enjoy, and rub it onto your legs to remove dead skin.

3. Always apply a second coat of mascara, it’ll ensure your mascara doesn’t fade, and stays curled all day.

4. If your lipstick doesn’t have a great staying power, before applying it, apply some to a slanted brush and fill and line your lips with it, then apply your lipstick regularly, it’ll double the lasting time!

5. Apply a shimmer based white or silver eyeshadow to the middle of your lower lip for bigger, exaggerated lips.

6. When you apply foundation, apply it in downward strokes, as it flattens the tiny hairs on your face, meaning you’re left with a much more natural looking base.

7. After you’ve washed your brushes, turn them upside down and roll them in your hand, this will preserve the softness and fluffiness of the brush.DSCN22548. If you want to overline your lips, only overline the centre of your lips, and then bring the line back into follow your lips natural lines, this makes your lips look much more natural and just a little plumper.

9. Mattify any lipstick by adding a pressed or translucent powder over the top of it, it absorbs the moisture and leaves you with a matte lipstick.

10. If your hair is badly tangled, don’t brush from the roots, this will hurt your scalp and possibly tear the hair out, instead brush from the ends and work your way up to the roots, it’s much more delicate on hair and your scalp.

11. If you have a few split ends, but you don’t want to have any length cut off of your hair, simply twist all of your hair together and cut the strands that are sticking out; this removes the split ends and doesn’t take off any length!

12. If you can never get a clean cut line when you do winged eyeliner, take a little bit of masking tape and put it on the back of your hand and peel it off a few times (this is just to make it slightly tacky) then put it beside your eye mimicking the line where you’d like your eyeliner. Then you can confidently apply your eyeliner, remove the tape and you’re left with a clean line.

13. If you don’t have an eyeshadow primer, you can use a small amount of concealer on your lids to help the eyeshadow last all day.

14. Hair grips are supposed to be used with the flat side showing! Many people slide the flat side downwards, this makes it easier for the grip to slide out!

15. If you’ve created a hairstyle and you’d like it to last longer than it does, use your hair grips in a cross formation, this means they both hold the other grip in.

16. Talcum powder can be used as a dry shampoo substitute if you don’t have any.DSCN225617. If your nail varnish takes too long to dry, once you’ve finished, put your fingertips into a glass of cold water for about 2 minutes, after that, your nails will be dry!

18. If your mascara has dried up and you can’t buy more for a little while, by adding a few drops of makeup remover to your mascara will make it last for a few more uses until you can buy a new one!

19. Applying chapstick before lipstick keeps the lipstick from transferring to around your mouth, and also makes it have a longer lasting power.

20. Putting a white eyeliner in your waterline brightens up tired eyes and makes them look bigger.

21. If you’ve woken up with badly puffy eyes, putting two spoons in the fridge for a couple of minutes and then resting them on your eyes for a few more minutes will reduce the puffiness and soothe your eyes.

22. If you constantly suffer with puffy eyes, ensure that you’re sleeping with pillows that elevate you head above the rest of your body, this means your body is properly draining the fluids from your head, no more puffy eyes!
